What can I do? My surgeon refused to continue my follow up recovery treatment

I'm so sorry to hear about your issues.  You surgeon has an ethical obligation to see you through to complete healing. If he or she can not correct your issues in my opinion he or she should refer you to someone who can current your issues.  

Hello.  Thank you for your question.  I am not sure what question you are asking here.  The results of any facelift procedure depend on multiple factors, some of which are under the control of the operating surgeon, and some are not.  If you would like input from the surgeons on this site regarding your results and possible treatment options, it would be helpful to see before and after pictures.  I am sorry to hear of the breakdown in communication between you and your surgeon.  You apparently do not have confidence in his expertise or the results of his work.  Therefore, it may be in your best interest to seek a second opinion.  I wish you the best in your efforts.  I hope this information is helpful.

If you would like the best advice from the real self community, some pre/post op photos would be helpful.  Unfortunately, it is difficult for the consumer to determine who is a highly qualified surgeon and who isn't.Best to find a board certified PS to help you from this point.  Good luck

I usually tell my patients that the first step for a safe plastic surgery is to choose a board certified aesthetic and reconstructive plastic surgeon.This should have a personal website containing details of his professional biography and some photos of the procedures performed.Your plastic surgeon should be transparent and a honest person with you, with ethical and human values, and especially with good reputation and history. I am so sorry to hear that you had such an awful experience. I highly recommend finding a board certified surgeon to make the corrections you are looking for. It is important when choosing a surgeon that you do not rush into it. Take your time, explore your options, and ensure that the surgeon is board certified and has experience in the procedures you are looking for.Good luck and I hope you have a far more pleasant experience with your next procedure!

I am very sorry that you have reached an impasse with your Surgeon. I agree with other posters that it is time to seek other opinions. I strongly disagree that seeing a General Plastic Surgeon is your only recourse. There are many excellent Facial Plastic Surgeons in the Miami area who could also be of help to you. Despite our strong competitive desire to have 100% satisfaction with our patients, it has never happened in any Surgeon's career. Claiming superiority for one's specialty has been defeated in virtually every court challenge, in the situation of the FTC as mentioned by Dr. Kraft, and by most state Medical boards. The reason for this is that Plastic Surgery in the face was developed by many specialties and is integral to many specialties.  Good luck in your search. 

Posting before and after pictures would help to give you a recommendation or opinion and generate some response form physicians. It is sad that you are having this problem. Look for the opinion of a Facial Plastic Surgeon board certified by the ABFPRS or a Plastic Surgeon board certified by the ABSP.If you believe that there is a complication, the physician that did your surgery can not deny you treatment and sent you off to look for help elsewhere. If there is no complications and there is only a difference of opinion about results, then the matter is a little more difficult for you. You also failed to mention how long ago the surgery was performed and what surgery you had done.Hope this helps.Dr. Gus Diaz

I am sorry to hear about your dissatisfaction, as that is something no physician would desire to hear. It really is important, however, to go to a surgeon who is truly Board-certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery (or for facial cosmetic surgery, the American Board of Otolaryngology with training in Facial Plastic Surgery). Any licensed U.S. physician can call themselves a cosmetic surgeon, but it pays to research your surgeon's credentials even before going in for consultation. Sorry to hear about your concerns.  It may be best to seek consultation with a board certified plastic surgeon (ambs) and one who has experience with facial rejuvenation revision.  Seek before and after photos as an example of their work and look up their online reviews, board complaints, and accreditation.  All the best,Dr Remus Repta

The FTC ruled many years ago that board certified plastic and reconstructive surgeons do not have the exclusive right to call ourselves plastic surgeons. Anyone with a medical license can bill himself as such and many who are board certified in other disciplines link the two together. There are many ASPS members in the Miami area, so you may want to begin by seeking second and third opinions. Best of luck!
