You can ask your physician to prescribe you some prednisone for the swelling, that will give you more immediate relief then Advil. Otherwise you need to continue with icing. If too much product was injected it can be removed with hyaluronidase.

Thank you for your question and picture.  It doesn.t look too bad although I can appreciate the bruising.  Advil may indeed be making the bruises worse.  Many department stores sell a product, a surgical make up called dermablend that can be used to conceal the bruises until they have healed.  Good luck.

I'm sorry to hear that you were not happy with you results but swelling can take 1-2 weeks to go down therefore it is quite normal to be swollen 1 day post injection. Cold compress will certainly help with any swelling and bruising in the early post op period so keep doing what you're doing. You do have the option of dissolving the filler if you need to reduce the volume of your lips immediately however you may want to wait a few days to see how things start to settle on their own. Some patients and doctors believe that taking Arnica for a few days before the injection of fillers and after treatment might diminish swelling and bruising. Cold compresses are usually beneficial in the early stages of swelling and bruising. There are special techniques that an experienced doctor can use to decrease bruising, but the degree of swelling is probably more related to volume of product injected.Good luck,

Thanks for your question and photo and I am sorry that you are having this problem right before you are going out of town and of course it gets worse when the office that did this is not open. We always recommend that you have these procedures in the offices of board certified dermatologists or plastic surgeons and while our office are not always open, we are always on call to deal with concerns and problems with our patients, and not being able to contact your provider is flag number one that concerns me greatly here. You may need to find another provider that will be there or at least available always.
Having said that, we always use and recommend ice post these injections to reduce swelling and we all know that swelling after these injections is very common and that the swelling can last up to two weeks after the injection. That is flag number two – you had the procedure and were leaving for out of town the next day – maybe not the smartest thing to do the day before a trip when we know that there is swelling that will occur and if you need to be in front of people, that’s a problem. We would also recommend a Medrol dose pack – this may help some.
Finally, although Juvederm is a very commonly used filler in the lips, it does cause swelling. That is well known. Restylane Silk also swells in this area, even though much less product is used. Belotero swells the least, and if you needed the filler the day before a trip, this may be the one that was chosen for you in this case.
Again, sorry for the problems and hope you get it taken care of quickly.

I always tell my patients to not love their filler
injections for 2 weeks. Swelling is very common and sometimes immediate. It can
last 3-7 days and a good idea is to use cold compresses. Cold compresses may be
used immediately after treatment to reduce swelling only if needed. This may be
applied for 3 minutes, 3 times per day, for up to 3 days. This is best done
with a bag of peas in a zip lock bag. Only apply light pressure to the area but
gentle massage might be necessary if the bump is from the filler material
itself. Get Arnica gel if you can find some and apply a few times a day as well
to help treat any swelling. Avoid any blood thinners. Bruising can also last
1-2 weeks. I don't recommend hyaluronidase this early and wait a few weeks
until the swelling has resolved. If it is persistent or you are worried, set up
a follow up appointment with your dermatologist.

This can happen with any injector, but it is less common with the more experienced injector. Arnica can help with swelling and bruising. I use a laser, Excel V or VBeam for my bruises and decreases the duration to a couple days. Steroids can sometimes be given for swelling. See link. Cannulas decrease bruising as well.

First, you should be able to contact your injector even if the office is closed. Unfortunately, bruising can occur and swelling is common. Both usually resolve after several days.

Sorry you are unhappy with your initial results. It is normal to have swelling after filler in lips and it can take 1 to 2 weeks for all the swelling to resolve and to see the final result. Your filler can be removed with injected hyaluronidase if you need it gone in a day. Bruising can be treated with a laser to help it resolve faster. If bruising occurs, we use a Cutera ExcelV laser to help bruising go away in a day. Call the clinic that did your filler to see if they could treat your bruise with a laser.The timing of your lip filler was not ideal with your upcoming business trip.
