Do I have to avoid expressions after restylane injection in the nasolabial fold?

Typically, the two basic restrictions
following a Restylane® injection are to not massage or aggressively touch the
face and to avoid strenuous exercise for 24 hours. Other than those two
limitations, you should be able to make your full range of facial expressions
without affecting the filler. Your injector may have been erring on the side of
overly cautious with his or her recommendation. However, smiling, laughing and
other facial expressions should not affect
your results.

I do not restrict my patients from anything after filler injections. I typically ask them to wait a day before exercising.  With cannulas you limit complications.  Best, Dr. Emer.

Thanks for this question.Filler can be great in the nasolabial folds. We ask our patients not to massage the area unless they can feel an irregularity of the product. We tell them all to smile and do what they usually do as this is natural and won't displace the product.

I advise my patients to avoid strenuous
exercise for 24 hours, otherwise there are no restrictions after fillers. Your
doctor likely recommended you keep movement to a minimum as an extra precaution,
however rest assured that normal facial expression will not affect your results.
Once injected, fillers cannot be moved or manipulated, with the exception of
dissolving the product with hyaluronidaise.

It is always best to follow your injector’s
recommendations, but in this case, don’t worry if you cannot keep
expressionless for very long. If you have any further questions, be sure to

Hi babylima, I typically tell my patients to avoid exercise on the day of filler placement. Other than that, I do not put any restrictions on them. That being said, I always encourage patients to comply with his or her surgeons recommendations.

Fillers once placed, should be ok. You can smile and do just about anything. If your doctor does not want you to massage that is fine.

I've never heard a doctor tell a patient not to smile or move their face after fillers. It would be nearly impossible to move the filler by doing normal activities. That being said, I do agree with your doctor that I tell patients not to massage or touch their faces. People are much more aggressive with their skin than they realize, and when I tell someone to "lightly touch" their face it is amazing the aggressive way I've seen it done. Thus, I just tell people to go about normal activities, but to not touch or try to move the filler with their fingers. "This answer has been solicited without seeing this patient and cannot
