Donut lifts: how much skin is removed? Is resizing of the areola a given? Will the nipple be more centered?

You provide no photos, so I can only assume you are not a good candidate for a donut lift (almost everyone isn't). This procedure is the most litigated cosmetic breast surgery because of bad outcomes: enlarged and irregular shaped areolas, thickened scars, skin pleating around the areola, persistently low areola, and persistent breast sagging. That's correct, the procedure that is supposed to make your areolas smaller typically doesn't. It is more likely you are a candidate for a true lift, which can do everything you want, with fine scarring and a beautiful breast shape. There are no shortcuts or real alternatives to a proper breast lift. 

Yes, a "donut lift" can reduce the circumference/diameter of the areola and lift the entire nipple-areolar complex.  I use this for only MINIMAL lift.  If you tro to do too much of a lift via donut, there is too much tension on the scar. 
My approach would be to do a combination of a donut and vertical lift so that the majority of the tension is on the vertical component.  The vertical scar heals well and stays within your bra or bathing suit lines.

I am not a proponent for donut lifts. They provide a minimal lift and the aeola tends to widen overtime. I don’t have your pictures so I’m not sure I can make an accurate determination as to what would be in your best interest.Hope this helps.

The donut lift is really more of a procedure to relocate the nipple minimal distances, or to decrease the size of the areola.  It is not a true breast lift and if the surgeon attempts to lift the breast with this technique, it may result in flattening the breast and a very poor surgical scar.  As a result, the use of this technique is very limited, but does have a place in some individuals.  The reason why it's attractive to some, is that there is only an incision around the nipple areolar complex.  

Thank you for your question.There are no photos, which leads me to think you are not a candidate for a donut llift. There are only a small group of patients that qualify for that procedure. It is used more to correct minimal asymmetries and not really lift the breast.

Thank you for your question.  Please understand that a periareolar mastopexy can lift the nipple about one inch at most and will have a minimal effect on breast shape, except to make it flatter.  And the donut lift scar tends to heal worse because of puckering and the tension on the closure. It is mostly useful as an areolar reduction.  Be very cautious about trying to accomplish too much with a donut lift.  I see a lot of patients from elsewhere that have had donut lifts and they come in to see me because they are unhappy with the results. Hello and thank you for your question. The other physicians are correct in that not every patient is a good candidate for a donut lift and attaching pictures or a physical examination would be best. A donut lift does remove a modest amount of skin in a concentric circle around the areola and areola skin does get removed, so the areola do become smaller. The tool used to do this actually comes in different sizes for what size the areola should be postoperatively. I also place a permanent suture around the circumference of the areola to retain the areolar shape and size so that you avoid the areola expanding after surgery. You do get a modest lift with this lift, but not as effective of a lift as a full mastopexy. Good luck to you in the future.

Thank you for your question. There are only a select few people who are ideal candidates for donut lift. That being said, a donut lift will resize the areola, as you mentioned, using concentric circles. What sometimes ends up occurring, if the amount of skin removed is more than conservative, is a skin pleating/creasing around the new areola. In addition, the scar around the areola can also widen with time. A donut lift can also reposition the areola/nipple higher up but only very minimally; if more than just minimal repositioning is required, a vertical scar lift or the inverted-T lift would likely be the better option even though there will be more scar burden. A donut lift is medically known as a mastopexy. Your board certified plastic surgeon will help in determination of how much he/she can safely remove access skin post measurements. They will be able to lift the areolas.

I would be cautious when considering a doughnut lift. Doughnut lifts are infrequently the best choice and they have a high likelihood of areolar spreading (re-enlargement of the areola). A lollipop or anchor lift is usually the best choice to create a beautiful breast shape.
