The average downtime for a surgical under-eye lift, which is commonly referred to as lower eyelid blepharoplasty, can vary depending on individual factors and the extent of the procedure. However, here is a general timeline for recovery:Immediate Post-Op: You can expect some bruising and swelling around the eyes immediately after the surgery. The initial recovery period may last a few days, during which you'll need to rest and avoid strenuous activities.First Week: Most patients can return to work and normal daily activities within about a week, although residual swelling and bruising may persist. Makeup can often be used to conceal these effects.2 to 4 Weeks: Swelling and bruising continue to subside, and you will notice ongoing improvements in the appearance of the lower eyelids. By the end of this period, you can typically resume more intense physical activities.Long-Term: It can take several months for the final results to become fully apparent as any residual swelling dissipates and the tissues settle into their new position.Lower eyelid blepharoplasty is a surgical procedure designed to address concerns such as under-eye bags, excess skin, or puffiness. It's essential to consult with a board-certified plastic surgeon or oculoplastic surgeon to discuss your specific goals and expectations, as well as the potential downtime based on your individual case.
For unique cases where a variety of modalities could be used to treat the condition, I would suggest an in person or virtual consultation to develop a custom and effective treatment plan. It is difficult to precisely define the best option without collecting the same information. I suggest reaching out to an expert for a consultation with surgical and non-surgical methods to get a comprehensive option. Best, Dr. Emer.
On this site, I do not believe there is a separate break down for lower blepharoplasty. So search for blepharoplasty and study the photos that show lower eyelid surgery. The down time varies depending on your concerns. The bruising and much of the swelling is improved after a couple of weeks that most strangers do not notice that you have just have had surgery. However, in photographs you will notice swelling that can persist for a couple of months. Many return to work after about a week off from surgery while they are still somewhat swollen or even bruised. Make up can help but it is not perfect and generally not advisable until the skin has healed. For many that can be a full two weeks or more after surgery.
Most patients tend to have some degree of bruising and swelling for two weeks after a lower blepharoplasty. Most patients who are less than 50 years of age can undergo a trans conjunctival approach by the Placement of the incisions completely on the inside of the eyelid. If there's excess skin present , then a small incision is made at the eyelash line, and then this incision is closed with tissue glue, which that takes about 10 days for it to dissolve.
Lower eyelid surgery is not considered a painful procedure. Most of the downtime is social due to swelling and bruising. These will begin to subside after about a week. A Plastic surgeon, after examining you, will be able to provide you with a more accurate timeline.
Thank you for your question. Typically the downtime after lower eyelid blepharoplasty is the time for swelling and bruising to resolve. Typically bruising and swelling resolves in 10 days to 3 weeks depending on how much bruising is evident.Generally speaking a newer type of the lower blepharoplasty called a transconjunctival lower blepharoplasty causes less swelling and bruising. The other benefit is that the incision is made on the inside of the lower eyelid and thus there is no visible incision.
