Is it normal to have a strong ongoing itching sensation two years after a tummy tuck?

This is unusual 2 years after your tummy tuck surgery. I strongly recommend seeing your surgeon for an exam.

Sensory alteration is quite common following a tummy tuck. A new onset of itching is not normal. It is possible that this represents the gradual return of sensation, but it's not typical. I would definitely see your surgeon and get their opinion. The appearance of the skin, any new rashes, the pattern of itchy skin could lead to a diagnosis that may not be directly related to your surgery. It is so important to let your doctor be a doctor. We often link symptoms to a recent surgery but that tunnel vision can delay treatment of something else. Best of luck.

I understand your concern. This is probably caused by nerve damage during surgery. However, without a proper assessment it would be difficult to determine what is wrong. It is best that you visit your plastic surgeon for further assessment. Only after thorough examination you can get proper recommendations and advice.

It is common to have a numb area in the lower abdomen but I have not heard of itching. I would follow up with your surgeon. Antihistamines or oral steroids may alleviate the itching.

Nerves take much longer to heal and this may take up to 18 months.  It is always best to ask these questions of your chosen surgeon as recommendations may be different and he knows the extent of your surgery and the history of your healing.

It is common to have some itching at the scar while it is healing during the first 2-3 months. also, of you have a hypertrophic or keloid scar, it can itch. Hi Sandy.This is NOT normal. You are describing nerve "pain" manifest as itching, ants, etc.  I would go to your ps to learn desensitization exercises.  In the mean time, rather than where the itch seems to be, scratch nearer to the flanks, as this may help.One unlikely possibility is internal shingles.See your doctor.All the best.sek
