Can't have liposuction due to varicose veins. What is an effective alternative to liposuction?

I was diagnosed with varicose veins recently and was told that liposuction would increase my chances of getting a blood clot. Is there an effective alternative to liposuction in my case? Thank you in advance.

True varicose veins may slightly increase risks for blood clots in certain individuals undergoing high risk surgeries. However, if you have a mild case and are asymptomatic, it could be perfectly safe to have liposuction in other areas. That would depend on many other factors to include the area you are interested in treating, your age, weight, and overall health and goals.

It depends upon the entry and the location of the veins.  Consult in-person with a board certified plastic surgeon who can evaluate you and recommend lipo or an alternative.

if there is a contraindication for liposuction, there are alternatives for fat removal. If you are considering a surgery, I would suggest you to consult a board-certified plastic surgeon. Only after a thorough examination you will get more information and recommendations.

Thank you for your question. Liposuction alternatives can be traditional liposuction or coolsculpting. I would recommend that you see a dermatologist or a plastic surgeon for a detailed evaluation.

Liposuction tends to be in the deep layer of fat away from the varicose veins in the superficial layer of your skin. Therefore having varicose veins does not mean that you cannot have liposuction. It is best to have an in-office evaluation to determine what the best treatment plan will be for you. Hope this helps!

Vilqna,Varicose veins are not a contraindication to having liposuction procedures.  I would go for several consultations with board certified Plastic Surgeons to get other opinions.Best of luck Dr T

Having varicose vein’s is not a absolute contraindication to having liposuction. I suggest getting a few opinions before rolling this out completely.I’m certainly not one for taking excessive risks but it could be that The provider you spoke with happens to have a more conservative stance than others.Cool sculpting is an alternative but it is ineffective in relationship to what liposuction can accomplish.I’m guessing that perhaps you’re interested in lower extremity liposuction. This is generally where people have varicosities. The number of people who are truly great candidates for lower extremity liposuction is slightly less than other anatomic areas. A lot has to do with skin laxity.you could also re-post with pictures getting some idea if this may or may not be an appropriate procedure.Cool sculpting is simply far less effective and has a fairly high rate of patients being dissatisfied for lack of results.Best, Mats Hagstrom MD

You should check with your specialist before getting any cosmetic procedure. That being said, cool-sculpting is another fat removal alternative to liposuction. The procedure is non-invasive and after a couple of treatments patients often notice amazing results.  A Skype or FaceTime consultation with a coolsculpting specialist will help you get an accurate recommendation and pricing.
