Can optimal results be achieved wearing the compression garment only without ab board and foam after liposuction? (Photos)

I recommend following up with your Doctor about their protocol regarding compression. I have my patients wear compression for 3-6 weeks straight then overnight for 3-6 months after their procedure. For liposuction after care, I recommend adding hyperbaric oxygen and lymphatic massage along with your compression to help decrease swelling. To improve your final results, I also recommend adding vanquish for further fat removal, exilis/venus legacy for skin tightening, (Trusculpt iD for muscle tone, contouring, and additional bf loss) cellutone/z wave to make the skin smooth, remove scar tissue, and improve the skin’s appearance. some plastic surgeons recommend compression garments in order to improve swelling and enhance healing process. But every plastic surgeon has his own postoperative protocol which he recommends to his patients. I would suggest you to discuss this with your plastic surgeon.

I would ask your board certified plastic surgeon about garments and the duration of wear, because each plastic surgeon will have a different protocol.   The patients who tend to have healing issues with larger volume liposuction procedures tend to be the ones who do not wear the compression garments at all, wear them very inconsistently, or do not wear them snugly covering all areas of liposuction.  I prefer adjustable garments with multiple bands so that tension can be adjusted. The key here is the size and the ability to tighten the garment, not the brand or make.

Each surgeon has his/her own post op protocols that they have their patients follow. There are surgeons that recommend wearing compression garments for weeks to a few months while others recommend some other post-op routine. The best resource of information would be your own surgeon. Be sure to consult with a board certified plastic surgeon who has a lot of experience in doing these procedures and have successfully done surgeries without complications.

So long as there is appropriate compression, you can wear whatever garment your surgeon recommends. However, the larger issue is that you have visceral fat as well as bulging of the abdomen, which would necessitate abdominoplasty with adjuvant suction lipectomy, not liposuction alone. Best wishes.

I generally look for for different components or variables with making an assessment on someone’s abdomen for aesthetic reasons. These are skin laxity, subcutaneous fat, muscle separation from previous pregnancies and excess intra abdominal or visceral fat. Liposuction and reduces subcutaneous fat only and will not address the other three components.There’s no scientific evidence that compression garments or the use of abdominal form as an impact on liposuction results.Personally I believe that the results from liposuction are 100% determined at the end of the procedure and postoperative care has zero impact on the final outcome.If the procedure is done correctly and someone who’s a good candidate there results will follow every time Regardless of the use of compression garments or foam.Adding summer or extended compression will never correct for poorly done liposuction. This is also true for any type of massage afterwards which cannot physically rearrange someone’s fat distribution.Best, Mats Hagstrom MD

From your pictures, it appears you are a great candidate for an ultra high definition tummy tuck and high definition VASER liposuction of the back and flanks. This would resolve the excess skin and fat in the abdominal region as well as the protruding abdomen. Liposuction of the back and flanks would help create a more defined physical appearance.
