Breast augmentation day 4 post op and have a lot of pain. Can I request more painkillers?

Thanks for your question.  It is not uncommon to have pain requiring more than just advil only 4 days after breast implant surgery.  It would be reasonable to discuss your concerns with your plastic surgeon so they can determine if another prescription is needed.

Hello and thanks for your post. You had very large breast implants (500 cc). I notice more pain and soreness with bigger breast implants. I would recommend you call your PS and see what they recommend, but it seems reasonable to me for you to me more comfortable. Best, Dr. ALDO.

Patient's recovery processes are completely individualized depending on the patient and the procedure.  It is not uncommon to have excess pain and tightness the first week post-operatively.  If it is excruciating pain I would contact the surgeon and try to be seen ASAP. As far as the pain medication, it is best to contact your surgeon who performed the surgery and discuss getting more pain medication from them. 

Thank you for your questions, and I am sorry to hear about your ongoing pain.  In my opinion, it would be prudent to have a conversation with your plastic surgeon who can help you through this episode.  They may want to examine you to ensure that your post operative healing is appropriate, and at that time can give recommendations regarding pain control. You may need a change to a different medicine, may benefit from a muscle relaxant, or may improve with other conservative measures.

I would suggest speaking with your surgeon or his/her nurse and letting them know about your pain. You are still very early in the healing process, and pain is still common. I would suggest trying Tylenol instead of Advil to minimize the risk of bleeding and bruising.

Pain and symptoms after breast augmentation are very specific to the person who has the surgery and the technique used during the surgery. Either way, it is not unreasonable to expect to have pain during the first week. A quick call to your surgeon should provide at least a discussion about things you can do to help with your pain. This can often include non-medicinal solutions to help as well.Best,Dr. Pyle

Four days after breast augmentation many patients experience
an ongoing significant amount of pain and discomfort while others may have only
a modest amount of pain. Generally,
narcotic pain relievers combined with non-steroidal anti-inflammatory such as
Ketorolac or a good combination. If you
have significant pain and there’s no local signs of infection, inflammation or
fluid collection it is not unreasonable to request a small prescription, an
extension pain pill medication. I would
certainly visit your plastic surgeon live to make sure there’s no treatable
underlying causes for the pain and that some additional ongoing narcotic pain relief
will help you feel much more comfortable.
