My cleavage area is lifted. When will it go away? (Photo)

Im 10 days post op and since my surgery my cleavage/chest area has been lifted. At first I thought it was swollen and it did go down a bit, but it's still there. How long does it usually take for that to go away?

Thank you for your question and photographs.  I see the swelling and lifting of the cleavage area over your breast bone that you are referring to.  With the amount of surgery that is required during a breast augmentation the overlying tissues do become quite swollen which can temporarily result in this appearance. The swelling normally starts to diminish at about the third day and should steadily improve over the next few weeks.

Having
swelling within your cleavage after a breast augmentation is very common. The
swelling should start to subside within 2-4 weeks.  You could apply some compression in that area
to help with the swelling such as a rolled up washcloth or a gauze roll. If the
swelling does not resolve, you should follow up with your surgeon.

It is not uncommon 10 days after surgery to still have upper fullness.  I would recommend discussing your concerns with your plastic surgeon to determine whether they recommend watchful waiting or other options like massage or an upper breast strap.

At this point in your recovery, it is much too soon to be
worried about the outcome.  It takes time for the implants to settle into
position and the skin and muscle to stretch out to accommodate the new implant.
 It may be 6 months or more before the shape has reached its final
look.  Be patient.

Good Morning and thank you for your question.  The area you're referring to has some swelling that will be better as the weeks go by.  You can try putting an ice pack here to help things along.  Sometimes rolling up a facecloth and placing it between your breasts for some added support can also make things more comfortable.  I hope this helps and best of luck!Dr. K.

You are way to early in the postoperative course to anticipate the final outcome.  Swelling usually takes at least three weeks to mostly resolve.  The implants usually take 3-6 weeks to settle into place (depending on the type of implant used -smooth vs. textured), but may take 3-6 months to settle.
