One-and-done facial fat transfer approach vs. one fat transfer and touch up?

With a fat transfer to the face, some doctors go with the one and done approach and do one somewhat aggressive fat transfer with the idea that they will not have to do another "touch up" fat transfer in the future. Other doctors seem to like to do a less aggressive fat transfer the first time and then do a second "touch up" fat transfer anywhere from 3 mths to a year afterward (depending on the dr). Which approach is better?

Usually desired results can be obtained with one fat transfer depending on volume required but fat retention has a range and it is a mistake to run the risk of over correction, so it is best to be open to a second procedure to get optimal results.

Thank you for your question. Fat grafting is only limited by the amount of donor fat your body has. So, if you have enough fat, you are able to do the grafting in stages but that requires multiple recovery times. With a board certified plastic surgeon that is experienced in fat grafting, you should be able to have an optimum result with one surgical procedure and one recovery. In our office, we offer 3D imaging to give our patients an accurate idea of what their final result will look like.
