I’m 3 years post op full TT w/muscle repair. The past year I’ve been experiencing abdominal distention, and my stomach is super hard to the touch. I’ve seen gastroenterologists thinking it’s related to that and they cannot find any issues internally. I’m im miserable. I have actually lost 14 lbs since my surgery so it’s not due to weight gain. What would cause this hardness and distention ? Also when I stand for long periods it gets worse.

Answer: Muscle tone I do between 150 and 200 abdominoplasties each year, and have been in practice over 25 years. That being said, I have seen thousands of patients after surgery. Without photos or physical exam, it is tough to say, but it sounds like a muscle tone issue with your abdominal wall. While the muscle is closed with sutures, if you have had large weight changes with pregnancies or diet, the tone of the muscles might not be enough to hold things flat. Exercise, EMS machines might be helpful. Return to your surgeon or seek another opinion if that is not possible .
