5 months post TT - 2 hospitalizations, painful hard swelling all down midline (Photo)

Question

I had a TT in Jan -Since then I have had 3 hematomas, 2 inpatient hospital stay (13 days between Feb/May), 3 JP drains for almost 2.5 mo & 2nd surg to remove hematoma in Mar. My surgeon has no idea why this keeps happening nor do the hospital doctors. They pump me full of IV antibiotics/pain meds & send me home. I'm less than one month from my last hospital stay & it's happening again. Horrible pain/swelling along midline. Possible reaction to sutures from muscle repair?

I understand your concern. However, without a proper assessment, it would be difficult to determine what went wrong. It is best that you visit your plastic surgeon for further assessment or ask for a second opinion. Only after a thorough examination, you can get proper recommendations and advice.

There is a possibility that you have a clotting problem known as von willebrands. It occurs in one percent of the population.  Women with this often have a history of heavy periods and nosebleeds. It should be checked out.

I'm sorry to hear of the complications you've been facing since your tummy tuck.  It's difficult to give possible reasons or solutions without a full review of your history.  If you are not finding answers it may be a good idea to visit with other board certified plastic surgeons near you to get other opinions.  Best wishes you find resolution.

There isn’t much we can do from the sidelines in regards to making an assessment or help you heal any faster.
Sometimes patients who have fluid buildup’s after surgery need to have drains placed. Plastic surgeons don’t always think about calling on interventional radiologist who are excellent at placing drains using local anesthesia under radiological guidance.
You can always call other local plastic surgeons for second opinion consultations.

Hi. This is very out of ordinary. I recommend seeing a hematologist for a work up of a bleeding disorder. If a regular hematologist doesn’t find anything, go to one that has experience with rare types of von willebrand disease. There are some rare forms of von willebrand that require very special tests to diagnose.
