Thanks for your question. You can not re-pierce over a scar. But you can likely get your ear pierced again adjacent to the scar. In some offices, your surgeon can pierce your ear for you. Good luck
Earlobe surgery is composed of several techniques that can either repair torn earlobes (split earlobes) or correct overly redundant earlobe tissue from piercings or genetics or stretching. Our HIDEF earlobe repair includes a recontouring of the earlobe contour using multilayered sutures to reapproximate the curvature of the earlobe; while simultaneously restoring contour to the ear. In patients with pixie ears after facelift surgery, an alternate technique is used to reduce the dependance of the earlobe on the facelift flap. Facelift surgery can reshape the earlobe and this requires restoration. Sutures are usually taken out within 10 days and the wound is repierced in 4-6 weeks thereafter. Keloid scars must be addressed in patients with known history for scarring. Best, Dr. KaramanoukianRealself100 Surgeon
After an ear lobe repair/reconstruction, the scar tissue on the lobe is not as healthy or strong as the native skin. I will ask my patients who had their ear lobe reconstructed to come back to see me after 6 months and will do the piercing for them in my office; at that time, we will discuss their desired location and stay at least 2-5 millimeters away from the scar line.
Thank you for your question.Every plastic surgery office has their own set of pre and post operative instructions that they recommend their patients follow. It is most important to follow the instructions of your surgeon.
You can repierce your earlobes in the area of your repair near the scar tissue approximately 2 months following surgery. Be sure to discuss this with your surgeon. Best of luck to you.
After having an earlobe repair procedure, the piercing can be placed near, but not exactly in the location where the old piercing was. The repair creates scar tissue that should not be pierced because it may result in a stretched/torn earlobe again. You can re-pierce a few millimeters away from the original piercing. Please meet with a board certified plastic surgeon to determine where your near earrings can be placed after repair.
I do not recommend a piercing in the exact same spot after repair. Scar tissue is not the same as undamaged, normal tissue. Even being just a small distance away from the repair line may be enough of a compromise to make you happy and keep your ear lobes healthy!hope this helps!dr. silver
If you re-pierce through the repair or scar it will tend to cut out again. Scar tissue is not as resilient as healthy earlobe! Re-piercing is usually fine but you must avoid the scar. Clearly you have had a problem before so be careful in the future and possibly try and avoid larger heavier earrings. Best wishes
Hi LashondaThe ear can be repierced, but not directly in the scar, as it is not as strong as non-scarred tissue.Hope this helps.sek
