If I allow my ear piercing to close am I still at risk of developing a keloid even after the hole has closed?

Thank you for your question. I would advise you to relax. If it has been some time since you had the piercing, your chance of developing a keloid scar late is small. Being dark skinned does put you at increased risk, but that is not a guarantee of getting one. I would say that it would be best to see a surgeon if you start to notice problems, but if you are not having problems, then just live life and don't worry too much about it.Good luck!

Hi, Keloids can develop at any stage after trauma. Some people are predisposed to it because of genetics and race. There are other factors that increase the risk of developing a keloid such as slow or delayed healing and infection. Both of these keep the inflammatory process going longer than normal.
If you piercing has healed up well, you may as well leave the earring in. You've already sustained the trauma of the piercing and so will always have a risk of developing a keloid. But you may not develop one at all!
