If I allow my ear piercing to close am I still at risk of developing a keloid even after the hole has closed?

I recently had my earlobes pierced (about 1 month ago) and later discovered the risk of developing a keloid. I am African American, 20 years old, my mother might have one keloid; which I've read puts me at an even higher risk of developing a keloid. I am slightly hypochondriacal and obsessive compulsive and therefore am uneasy about my odds of developing these unsightly growths on my ears. I would like to take my piercings out if that means I would no longer be at risk once they've closed.
