Will 345cc moderate profile make me look top heavy?

Question

Scheduled for Tuesday to get BA. I picked 345 implants but Im starting to worry that they will be too big. I would like to be the notorious "full c" maybe about a 36C. The thought of a "D" cup scares me. I weigh 155 and I am 5'3. 6-8 in pant size. I am scared I will look too top heavy or fat with the implant size. Is it likely that this size will take me far over a fuller C look?

It is very difficult to determine the best lift you will need (recommended based on your photos) or the exact size and shape implant you will require to best match your ideal breast image without an examination by a board certified plastic surgeon. Not just any board certified plastic surgeon, but one with many years of frequently performing breast augmentation surgery including different approaches, techniques and implant choices. This is because several measurements not to mention your breast characteristics are needed to determine the optimal implant size to obtain your goals. Without knowing these dimensions it would be difficult to make this determination. For example, the existing base width of your breast will determine, in many cases, the maximal volume per implant profile that you can accommodate. To illustrate; a 100 cc difference may make a significant difference with a narrow base width breast, but much less of a difference if you have a wide chest wall and wide breast “foot print”. Therefore, just because your friend may have a great result with let’s say a 300 cc implant to make her go from a “A” cup to a “C” cup size does not mean that you will have the same result with the same size implant. The same process goes for just filling in the upper part of your breast without becoming much larger. Further simply placing implants in a bra to determine the size best for you is not always accurate as the bra often distorts the size, is dependent on the pressure the bra places plus the implant is outside your breast and not under it among other variables. Computer software morphing programs that automatically determine the best implant size can be helpful in some but not all cases (e.g. doesn’t work well in my experience with existing implants, sagging or asymmetric breasts). Using “want to be” photos however are useful if simply provided to the surgeon as I will further explain in the link below including silicone vs saline implant

Great question!  I wouldn't be so hung up on the letters.  I would appreciate the size and how comfortable you feel (or going to feel).  Trust your plastic surgeon.  I recommend an in-office examination as well as a detailed discussion with a surgeon who you are comfortable.  Additionally, make sure your surgeon is a Double-Board Certified Plastic Surgeon certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery, a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgery (ASPS) and the American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS).

This is a good question and a common concern of may patients prior to surgery.  I would recommend discussing your concerns with your surgeon and perhaps going back in to be resized and look at implants again prior to surgery-- ultimately we all want our patients to feel confident with their selection of implants and be happy with their results and it may take another visit with your surgeon to make sure you are both on the same page prior to surgery.

Unfortunately it is impossible to recommend the best implant style, size or shape without an in-person examination that allows for the measurement of key breast parameters, as well as permits an in-depth discussion as to your desired goals and outcome. I would recommend seeing an ASPS board certified plastic surgeon, they are in the best position to ensure that the implants the two of your decide upon are the right ones to meet your expectations. It sounds as if it may be wise for you to "try on" several of the implants so that you can have a better visual representation as to what they would look like. Best wishes!

sizing breast implants has to be done IN PERSON based on breast measurements, not so much based on height and weight.  Be sure to discuss your goals and concerns with your board certified plastic surgeon and consider the pros and the cons. Thanks for your question.  The size of your implant is based on a few factors.  First, your breast base width needs to be measured to ensure that you are picking an implant that will actually fit on your chest and not be too wide for you.  Second, I always have patients try on sizers to see in the mirror what the end result will look like (in clothing).  Patients are happy with their result using this method.  My patients can pick the look that they like as opposed to me guessing what size they will be happy with.  Occasionally the implant looks too big and we need to use a smaller implant to avoid the patient looking "top heavy" or fuller in the abdomen than they would like.  Make sure to discuss these things with your surgeon ASAP if your surgery is for tomorrow.  Surgery needs to be performed correctly the first time to obtain the best result.

Thank you for the question.  Despite your good description of body type and goals, online consultants will not be able to provide you with specific enough advice to be truly helpful.  Ultimately, careful selection of plastic surgeon and careful communication of your goals (in my practice I prefer the use of goal pictures, direct examination/communication in front of a full-length mirror, in bra sizers, and computer imaging)  as well as careful measurements (dimensional planning) will be critical.
 
***Given your concerns, it is definitely worth spending more time (preferably prior to the date of surgery) with your plastic surgeon to discuss further.  One question that might be helpful to you: will you be more disappointed if you are slightly too small or slightly too big?  It will be important for many reasons, that you feel comfortable that you and your plastic surgeon are on the "same page" prior to proceeding.
 Generally speaking, the best online advice I can give to ladies who are considering breast augmentation surgery ( regarding breast implant size/profile selection) is:
1. Concentrate on choosing your plastic surgeon carefully. Concentrate on appropriate training, certification, and the ability of the plastic surgeon to achieve the results you are looking for. Ask to see lots of examples of his/her work.
2. Have a full discussion and communication regarding your desired goals with your plastic surgeon. This communication will be critical in determining breast implant size/type/profile will most likely help achieve your goals. 
In my practice, the use of photographs of “goal” pictures (and breasts that are too big or too small) is very helpful. For example, I have found that the use of words such as “natural” or "full C cup" or "top heavy" etc means different things to different people and therefore prove unhelpful.
Also, as you know, cup size varies depending on him who makes the bra; therefore, discussing desired cup size may also be inaccurate. Again, the use of computer imaging has been very helpful during the communication process, in our practice.
3. Once you feel you have communicated your goals clearly, allow your plastic surgeon to use his/her years of experience/judgment to choose the breast implant size/profile that will best meet your goals. Again, in my practice, this decision is usually made during surgery, after the use of temporary intraoperative sizers.
