I had lipo and BBL 15 months ago. Did not recover well, PA had to drain abdomen every 2-3 days, had severe pain for 6 months, then tolerable pain for another 9 months. Have several hard and soft lumps, a hard band around waist that’s still tender, burn scar on tattoo, overall very uneven. Dr has been injecting anti inflammatory steroid injections to lumps every 6 weeks for 15 months and now recommends that only a tummy tuck will improve appearance. I feel very confused.

Answer: Will a tummy tuck help me tummy tuck is probably the only potential solution to your problems. This should take care of the aesthetic considerations however the pain and discomfort you describe may or may not resolve. It sounds like your discomfort may be related to scarring. Your surgeon is more qualified to render that opinion. Without the luxury of preop photos it is hard to speculate why this occured. From the limited information i have, you were probably more of a candidate for a tummy tuck to begin with however the bbl was a priority at the time. A Tummy Tuck may be the answer. Best Wishes

Answer: Problems after BBL It sounds like the liposuction was done very aggressively during your procedure. The development of seromas can happen from liposuction but is not common. As has previously been mentioned it's important to determine that you don't have chronic or encapsulated seromas. This can best be done within ultrasound examination. Medical insurance should cover your ultrasound. If you do have chronic encapsulated seromas then these should probably be surgically excised at the time of an abdominoplasty if you choose to go that way. Any scar tissue including capsules was severely limit debility to stretch the skin during an abdominoplasty limiting potential improvements. If your doctor is not a board-certified plastic surgeon then please consult with one who is. If liposuction it's done unevenly then even an abdominoplasty can leave an uneven skin contour. Aggressive liposuction can also leave enough score tissue making it difficult to pull the skin tight during an abdominoplasty. Best, Mats Hagstrom M.D.
