Post-lipo compression: what do patients typically wear over top of their compression garments?

Question

After having liposuction on thigh area, I understand that patients are to wear a compression garment 24/7 for at least three weeks afterwards. I also understand it's important to avoid wearing clothing with seams, as this can leave indents on the skin. So, what do patients typically wear over top of their compression garments?

You are welcome to wear any loose clothing over the compression garments. I recommend following up with your Doctor to make sure your compression garment fits correctly. I have my clients wear customized compression after liposuction. For liposuction after care, I recommend adding hyperbaric oxygen and lymphatic massage along with your compression to help decrease swelling. To improve your final results, I also recommend adding vanquish for further fat removal, exilis/venus legacy for skin tightening, cellutone/z wave to make the skin smooth, remove scar tissue, and improve the skin’s appearance. Dear tferg,it is important to wear proper compression garment to prevent swelling and get the best results after liposuction. You can wear comfortable clothes over your compression garment. tferg.    Good question.  The compression garment protects the areas liposuctioned and provides adequate compression to quicken decrease of swelling.  For that reason you can pretty much wear anything over the garment, but nothing too tight or restrictive. Comfort is key, especially early postop. Consult with you board certified plastic surgeon.  Good luck!

You are correct that after liposuction, a proper garment must be worn to keep swelling down. These garments typically have special seems that don't leave grooves. As for what you wear over those, loose clothing is probably best and most comfortable.

We often recommend compression garments after liposuction to reduce swelling and to encourage skin retraction. Many patients feel less nerve pain if swelling is controlled in this manner. Many compression garments are bulkier than what most patients would commonly use for underwear. So, loose fitting garments such as sweats or other athletic wear work well. I try to get my patients to transition to Spanx or similar soft lycra support as soon as possible, as these allow for more options in clothing styles.

There is no standard on how many days someone should wear compression garments.
I asked my patients to wear them 24 hours a day except for when showering and for the first week. After that patients can wear them 12 hours on and the 12 hours off. Compression garments have no impact on the final results of liposuction 
Patient could wear them longer if they like.
Invitations from either clothing or compression garments have no impact on the final results from liposuction.
It's simply not possible to remove or add fat from wearing clothing.
You can wear any clothes you would like that are comfortable over your compression garments.
Compression garments can become wet especially if incisions are left open.
The fluid that leaks out can stain clothing and usually has a light blood tinged color to it.
Used Hydrogen peroxide to clean any blood stains.
Loose clothing like sweatpants are probably ideal.
For upper body liposuction avoid clothing without zippers or buttons because they are easier to get in and out of.
