Creating a "sling" or hammock using the platysma muscle is a common practice in neck lifts and face lifts. In these cases it is done along with the excision of excess skin and can last a lifetime. When no skin is resected, which is the case with a pure "Sling" the result is much more temporary and can be as short as 6 months. There is also the problem that if you tighten the tissue under the skin and do nothing to tighten the skin what happens to the excess skin? Good question. The excess skin will bunch behind the ears or under the chin. I am not a fan of the isolated sling.
We have never heard of the neck sling type of neck lift. A neck lift involves removal of fatty deposits above and below the platysma muscle in the neck, and the platysma plasty. When there is extra skin present in the neck in patients over 50 years of age, a lower face and neck lift is required. For many examples, please see the link and the video below
