Hello, Thank you for your questions regarding low back pain after a lower body lift, LBL, 360 circumferential lower body lift, belt lipectomy, or belt dermolipectomy. During a 360 circumferential lower body lift an incision is made across the lower abdomen, hips, and buttocks. During the abdominal portion of the lower body lift, the abdominal muscles are sewn together and the abdominal skin is pulled down. In immediate postoperative period, you are encouraged to maintain a flexed position of approximately 45°. Also, you are encouraged to walk in a bend position of about 45°. Since your abdomen is pulled being pulled forward and down (like a sit-up), you are relying on your back muscles to stabilize your torso. This abdominal position puts undue stress on your back muscles. Typically, two to three weeks after your lower body lift, you will be able to stand up straight and relieve the strain and pressure from your back. However, being able to bend over and tie your shoes may take several months. Every patient is different; however, most patients are able to bend over and tie their shoes approximately 3 to 4 months after a lower body lift, LBL, or 360 circumferential lower body lift. Thank you for your question regarding lower back pain after a lower body lift, LBL, or 360 circumferential lower body lift.
