I've read mixed information about this. Some websites state that a nurse anesthetist is just as safe as an anesthesiologist. Some stated the opposite. Would like to hear it from the Doctors. My chosen surgeon operates at an AAAASF accredited facility and is double board certified.
Answer: Nurse anesthetist Thanks for your question! We have used both in our practice and currently use a nurse anesthetist. They have been extremely professional, thorough and we happily continue to use them. Good luck!

Answer: Comparing Nurse Anesthetist and Anesthesiologist for Surgical Safety Hello gdenisse0630, Thank you for your question about the safety of using a nurse anesthetist compared to an anesthesiologist during surgery. It's a common question, and I'm glad you're seeking clarification. Firstly, it's important to understand the difference in training between a nurse anesthetist (CRNA) and an anesthesiologist. A CRNA is a registered nurse who has completed additional specialized training in anesthesia, while an anesthesiologist is a medical doctor who has completed medical school and additional training in anesthesia. In terms of safety, numerous studies have shown that nurse anesthetists provide safe and effective anesthesia care comparable to their physician counterparts. The critical factor is the experience and the training of the individual providing the anesthesia, rather than the specific title they hold. In your case, it's reassuring to know that your surgeon operates in an AAAASF accredited facility and is double board certified. Accreditation standards require that the anesthesia services, whether provided by a CRNA or an anesthesiologist, adhere to stringent safety and quality guidelines. Ultimately, the decision may also depend on the complexity of the procedure and your medical history. Some complex cases might benefit from the involvement of an anesthesiologist due to their extensive medical training. However, for most standard procedures, a CRNA can safely administer anesthesia. I always recommend discussing any concerns you have about anesthesia with your surgeon and the anesthesia provider. They can provide specific information based on your health, the surgical procedure, and the anesthesia plan. Sincerely, Dr. Katzen

Answer: Anesthesia This has actually been studied over and over . As long as you are healthy you would be as safe with a nurse anesthetist. If you would be more comfortable with a physician anesthesiologist you can always request one or have your surgery elsewhere
