Hi ceekay101,Inverted nipples may be corrected somewhat with the implants supplying pressure behind the nipple/areola.  A more definitive way to achieve this is to release the tight ducts that are usually the cause.  This, however, may affect your ability to breast feed in the future.      Based on your photographs, I question the need for a lift in your case.  It appears to me that implants alone should give you a very nice result.Good luck,Ary Krau MD FAcs

I agree with your plan to have the breast augmentation and lift done first. There is a chance that the nipple position and projection can be improved with the implants. If not then a procedure to release the ducts from the papilla of the nipple can be done. It would mean that breast feeding in the future would likely not be possible. Good luck with surgery.

Hi Celine,Good luck with your upcoming surgery!  I doubt that moving the nipple will increase nipple inversion, because the entire area of the breast will be moved, and covered over with the skin from the inside and outside of the breast.  So this should support the nipple area more!  Most of the time implants by themselves will correct inverted nipples.  You can always have an inverted nipple repair in the future if the problem persists, as you are planning.  All the best,  "Dr. Joe"

Hi. There are techniques to correct inverted nipples. However, you need to realize that symmetry does not exist and that one will always be different than the other. IMHO you do not need a breast lift with the additional scars that come with a lift. I feel that a breast augmentation alone will enhance your breasts. I would certainly use smooth, high profile, silicone gel implants in a submuscular location placed through the areola. Nipple correction can be done at the same time. Good luck

Hi. Having breast implants will tend to push out the nipples, and you may find that the inversion is improved with the surgery - it definitely will not make the nipple inversion worse.Regards Dr Charles Cope

Nipple inversion is correctable with relatively simple manuevers during augmentation with or without breast lift. Sometimes the procedure in and of itself is sufficient in very minimal cases like yours. But bluntly stretching the tethering fibers - called Copper's Ligaments- corrected the problem. In more extreme cases of breast lifting one might consider staging the release several months after the initial surgery to minimize risks of nipple compromise or partial loss. 

Inverted nipples are quite common and the good news is that they are usually quite easy to fix. If you can pull your nipples out easily it is possible that they may project better after your implants are placed. If they are more tethered you will need to have a small procedure to release them and keep them out. This can be done at same time as your surgery or in the office at a later time. If your surgeon is placing the implants through an incision around your nipples it would make sense to delay fixing the inverted nipples so the blood supply doesn't get too compromised. Of course an in person examination is necessary to be certain, but looking at your lateral photograph your nipple position looks to be above your inframammary crease and there  seems to be adequate breast gland in your lower pole. If your nipple is above the crease underneath your breasts ask your plastic surgeon if a dual plane sub-muscular breast augmentation may be all that you need which will help you avoid the scarring associated with a breast lift.Breast implants alone can often improve an inverted nipple therefore it is wise to wait until after your implant surgery before having nipple revision surgery.For more information on breast lift with implants please read the following link:
