Will a warm eye compress help with hollow eyes?

Unfortunately, warm compresses will not help with hollow eyes.   Seeing a board certified facial plastic or plastic surgeon should help you decide on the best approach for you.I hope this helps.

Warm compresses may help temporarily.  You may consider fat grafting along the lower orbital rim to correct the hollowness and tear trough.  

Under eye hollowing can normally be fixed with volume replacement. Fillers that are Hyaluronic Acid based are best for that sensitive area. There are different types of HA fillers and a consultation with a trained injector is best to decide which on is right for you. From your post, it sounds like you either lost volume in your face or that your didn't have much volume and as we age it becomes more apparent.  The long and the short is no, warm compresses will not help the etiology of your problem.  From what you describe, some filler into those areas will help fill out the hollow and the "bag" will not be apparent.  If you have never tried fillers, give it a shot and you will see how quickly the dark spots will also fade!  See an expert!

Thanks for your question. What you are describing is quite common in many patients I see. It is difficult to give an assessment without photographs. Generally, hollow areas under the eyes respond best to volume replacement with either filler or fat. The hyperpigmentation can sometimes respond favorably to fat as well. 
A warm compress may cause some dilation of the small blood vessels and lead to more blood flow to the area. This can potentially make the hyperpigmentation worse. However, there is likely low harm to using a warm compress so you may consider trying it. Best to see a board certified or board eligible plastic surgeon in your area for an in person evaluation and definitive medical treatment recommendations.

Warm compresses will not have any lasting effect on hollowness around eyes. Consider filler injection instead. See following video and website link. 

This will give mild improvement compared to a combination approach. Fillers, lasers, and microneedling/PRP can improve under the eyes. My patients try to get non surgical treatments to avoid surgery. If a warm compress helps at all, it would be minimal and temporary.  Volume loss can be addressed with fillers, which last 9-12 months, or with fat grafting which is permanent.  I recommend visiting a board certified plastic surgeon in your area to explore your options.

Thank you for your question.   I would consider posting photos or seeing a specialist for a face to face consultation.  This would allow a more accurate assessment of the underlying issue and your anatomy.  You can try warm compresses but it would be very unlikely to treat the problem you're describing.  Best wishes.   

Warm compresses cannot alter your anatomy. You should have an in-person consultation with a board-certified, fellowship trained MD who specializes in eyelid anatomy and cosmetic eyelid surgery (Oculofacial Plastic Surgeon). Avoid non-doctors, nurses, or doctors who do eyelid surgery part-time. Fillers might be an option but they have potential downsides that should be discussed with your doctor. Good luck.Damon B.
