Thank you for yourquestion.Botox will help with the appearance of a "gummy smile" but can make the upper lip appearance thinner when you smile. To be sure what is best for you, see twoor more board-certified providers in your area for a complete evaluation tomake sure you are a good candidate and that it is safe for you to havetreatment.I hope this helps.
Botox can be injected in the base of the nose to help treat the "gummy smile". This should not affect the upper lip shape. Small amounts should be used to help decrease the upper lip tension. Other options include orthodontics, jaw surgery, or a muscle release performed inside the mouth.
Lips can change the shape or be more difficult to remain shapely after injection to this area. I suggest only seeing an expert. Best, Dr. Emer.
Botox is often used to treat a gummy smile by relaxing the muscles that pull the lip upwards when smiling. This must be done carefully to avoid a droopy upper lip, and if done excessively or incorrectly it can result in a long flat lip appearance. If the lip lengthens too much it will typically only last a short period of time and then improve. Best regards
For the treatment of the gummy smile, the upper lip does not raise as high so the upper lip may appear to be a little longer. The rest of the lip shape does not change.
Botox improves a gummy smile by relaxing the muscles that otherwise pull the lip up over the gum. An effect will be flattening the upper lip during smiling because it can't be pulled up as much. If that is bothersome, it is easy to use injectable hyaluronic acid fillers like belotero, juvederm ultra or restylane to 'evert' (turn outward) the upper lip without making the upper lip bigger. Injections into the fat pads behind the upper cutaneous lip (the skin between the red lip and nose), under the nose and in the philtrum (the sides of the cupid's bow) may be helpful. The benefit of adding filler is also a longer lasting result.I hope this answer was helpful.Wishing you luck.
Thank you for your question. Botox can be used for a "gummy" or high upper lip during smiling that exposes the upper gum line. It is usually placed in small amounts in the upper lips in various areas. Results may vary and the amount may need to be adjusted to achieve the desired result. Good luck, Dr. Bublik.
In my experience Botox to the gummy smile does not change the volume of the lip. The lip will not elevate as much and it might look a little longer due to this, but is an expected tradeoff to decrease the gummy smile. Look for an expert injector of Botox for this area.Hope this helps,Dr. Gus Diaz
When treating the gummy smile with Botox, there should be no change in the shape or appearance of the upper lip. The ideal treatment is to keep the beautiful smile, just with a little less show of the gums. If the treatment is overdone, then the upper lip can appear to lengthen and look flat. As we age, there is also a natural lengthening of the upper lip even without Botox due to loss of support and some laxity of the skin. So the best candidates for Botox treatment of the gummy smile are those who have a youthful lip to begin with. Botox treatment for gummy smile lasts a few weeks and rarely more than a couple of months. Nevertheless, when performed correctly, it can provide very satisfying results.
One of the side-effects of treating gummy smile with botox is that the upper lip may lengthen a bit expecially if the dose is too great. If you had this done and this occurred it will only last a couple of weeks and then go back up but the gummy smile will still be treated.
