My PS said to plan on a week to 2 weeks to have someone home helping me w/my toddler. But There has been no mention about the first few days after surgery on how limited my mobility will be for my arms for me to be able to go to the bathroom, brush my hair, or brush my teeth. I’d like to know how many days I could be immobile to do my daily living activities such as these? What about rapid recovery by moving my arms up & down to speed up healing?
Answer: How long after my BA will I be able to move my arms to: brush my teeth, hair, or go the bathroom by myself? You will be able to perform all of your activities of daily living from the first day after surgery. For those who have young children, I always suggest getting some assistance for the first couple of days. Good luck!

Answer: Recovery from Breast Augmentation Thank you for your question. Recovery time is highly dependent on the patient and how their body responds to breast augmentation surgery and should be discussed directly with your PS so he/she may best advice you on what is needed specifically for you. With that said, the initial recovery period after a breast augmentation is 24 to 48 hours, with an addition reduced activity period for a few weeks. You will be able to dress yourself, use the bathroom, brush your teeth right away but it is important to note that you should only raise your arm to shoulder level for the first two weeks to make sure any wounds do not pull open, and you should also avoid lifting objects (or children) heavier than 5 lb during the first two weeks. You will need to avoid any vigorous activity, such as running or jumping, as that will make your breasts bounce and possibly open your wounds or dislodge the implants. Soreness and swelling can be expected for a few weeks. Exercise and normal activity can resume typically 6 to 8 weeks after your breast augmentation surgery. Good luck!Kamran Azad MD, Board Certified Plastic Surgeon

Answer: Moving after breast implant surgery Thanks for the question. It's always best to make a quick phone call to your plastic surgeon, so that you can get his recommendation.Having said that, most plastic surgeons allow their patients to immediately do simple things like brushing their teeth, going to the bathroom or brushing their hair. As long as patients are not lifting more than five pounds, they can start moving their arms.Plastic surgeons may vary a little bit on lifting the arms, so get advice from your surgeon. However, in a lot of practices, patients are encouraged to begin raising their arms on the same day of surgery in order to make the recovery time smoother and prevent stiffness.Again, I encourage you to pick up the phone and make a quick call to clarify your instructions. Its good to have open communication with your surgeon.Good Luck!

Answer: Movement after breast augmentation Thank you for your question. Although post operative instructions do vary from one plastic surgeon to another, my advice is to refrain from lifting anything greater than 15 pounds for a full 4 weeks after breast augmentation. Movements that include routines of daily living do not need to be avoided. Best of luck.

Answer: Activities allowed after Breast Augmentation surgery Breast Augmentation surgery can be a little limiting in activities that require the use of your arms. Patients are wrapped with guaze and ace wraps around their chest. The arms are free to move and most patient are able to brush their teeth, brush hair and use the bathroom on their own. I encourage patients to use their arms as soon as possible but not to lift anything heavier than 10 pounds. Good luck.
