7.2 A1C - Would I receive tummy tuck surgery clearance?

Hello, i would like to know if 7..2 A1C is ok if your labs are excellent, xray excellent, ekg, excellent, and the endocronologist gave clerance because every clotting test was did, activated ptt, and all,. Would the clerance letter be excepted?

If your A1C levels are well controlled, your plastic surgeon may clear you for a TT. Realize that healing may take longer because wounds of diabetics must be managed.

Your PS will want your surgery to be as safe as possible. While your labs may be ok, the A1c indicates that your blood surgar is not well controlled. In my own facility we would want to see it lower before proceeding. Best to discuss with your PS.

your diabetes should be under control prior to surgery. If you are considering surgery, I would suggest you consult a board-certified plastic surgeon. Only after a thorough examination, you will get more information and recommendations.

Each surgeon will determine if you are a candidate for the procedures you are considering based on your labs, medical history, and physical exam.  It appears from your A1c that your blood sugars may need to be under tighter control.  I would encourage you to discuss your lab and test results with your surgeon.

Thank you for your questions. In general, every patient who has a significant medical history needs to be cleared for surgery by the medical doctor who manages their care. I recommend scheduling a consultation with a board certified Plastic Surgeon. During that visit, your entire medical history will be discussed and plan put together that is safe and meets your goals as close as possible. While your other labs may be excellent, an A1c over 6.7 puts you into a high risk for post operative infection. Certainly any above 7.0.

Work on controlling your diabetes then set the surgery.

Each plastic surgeon will make their own decision in regards to who needs medical clearance and who does not. Starting with your endocrinologist or primary care doctor is a good idea. The next step is to have a few in person consultations with local board-certified plastic surgeons to get an assessment, a better understanding of the procedure and to find out if you need any further work up.

Your A1c provides information regarding blood glucose levels over the past 3 months or so. Your result is "borderline" (upper limit of normal is 7) and by itself can not determine your candidacy. When taken along with a complete history and physical examination and recent blood study results, a decision can be made, and apparently your endocrinologist did precisely that for you!
