I had a lamenectomy (back surgery), one year ago. I have yet to regain my full feeling in my leg, due to the nerve damage. Do you think it's safe to have lipo and tummy tuck done?
Answer: Tummy tuck and liposuction If you are seeing ongoing improvement from your back surgery, and your sensation levels continue to improve, I would consider waiting. On the contrary, if your results are pretty stable and you're not doing anything such as active physical therapy, you should be healed enough to proceed with the second surgery, in this case a tummy tuck and liposuction.

Answer: Tummy Tuck and Lipo after Back Surgery Yes, it should not be a problem to have a tummy tuck and lipo following back surgery. I would suggest that you see a board-certified plastic surgeon to review the risk and benefits of this surgery.

Answer: Tummy Tuck and Lipo After a Laminectomy (Back Surgery) As it has been a year since your laminectomy, it is likely fine for you to have liposuction and a tummy tuck. However, before moving forward with contacting a plastic surgeon for a consultation, meet with with your orthopedic surgeon for their guidance and clearance. It is important that there are no contraindications from your previous surgery that would impact plastic surgery. If you receive the all clear, then meet with a Board Certified plastic surgeon who can best evaluate you in person. Karen Singer, M.D., P.A.Harvard GraduateBoard Certified Plastic Surgeon

Answer: Is it safe to have lipo and tummy tuck after having back surgery? Thank you for your question. I recommend waiting until you regain some feeling in your leg. It's better for that to heal first. Please visit a board certified plastic surgeon to address the possible complications and risks. When considering plastic surgery: 1. Begin with a board certified plastic surgeon and visit several offices 2. Seek a surgeon who does at least 100 of these procedures per year 3. Internet discussions do not replace the advice of your physician

Answer: Should be OK Full recovery from most surgeries is complete at a year's time. Certain procedures can take even longer. If you are over a year out from your back surgery and there are no contraindications, I don't see why you should not be able to move forward and have a tummy tuck and liposuction.Recovery from a tummy tuck can be pretty intense if the muscles are tightened. Some patients find it hard to stand up straight for the first few weeks. Patients with back issues can have a harder time recovering from a tummy tuck.Hope that helps.Best of luck,Mats Hagstrom, M.D.
