Will Kybella make skin looser? (photo)

Question

I am 4 weeks post kybella treatment 1. Was performed by doctor who participated in clinical trials and has trained other doctors in the procedure. I went for tightening of small bit of loose skin, and she insisted this would work, even though I had only a small amount of fat. I loved the results when initial swelling subsided, but at 4 weeks I have loose skin...seems more than before. Will this get better or worse? Am petrified of doing a second treatment if it will just make skin even looser.

Kybella is associated with the generation of inflammation as part of the removal of fat. Its claim this can actually tighten skin although I doubt it. Nevertheless, if the skin is in good condition in the fat is not excessive the treatment should do well.

Kybella, which is an FDA approved form of bile salt, dissolves fat immediately beneath your chin.  It does not tighten loose skin, and it does not address platysmal banding, which is seen in the photo shown.  Although Kybella is sometimes marketed as an alternative to a necklift, it is truly only for the purpose of fat removal.

Kybella does sometimes improve submental skin laxity in some patients, but it does not work in everyone. I would consider giving your tissue more time to heal before considering another injection since you may or may not see any additional tightening with another injection considering your lack of submental fat. I don't think that an additional injection will make your skin looser, it just may not tighten it anymore than it is now.Other non-operative options for skin tightening that you might consider would be SkinTyte or Exilis, but these also rely on your tissue's ability to contract to make the skin less loose. Sometimes a neck lift is required to improve this area.

I think you should wait another 4 weeks.  On the other hand, the skin contraction is not that dramatic.  You may need a face/neck lift to fix your neck.  Please consider reposting and letting us know how you did.

Kybella does not tighten skin, it melts fat cells. There is minimal skin tightening but that is the skin that subtracts with fat loss. If skin laxity is present, you may want to consider different treatments such as Profound or Ultherapy. Good luck!

situation. Kybella is the first and thus-far only FDA-approved non-surgical
injectable treatment for the double chin. Loose skin on the neck can be treated with fractional CO2 laser resurfacing. Please consult with a doctor for specific recommendations. Good luck!

From my experience with Kybella I have found that there is increasing tightness of the skin so that we are now spacing our Kybella injections further apart to get more tightening.  Originally it was every 4 weeks and now it has stretched to 8 weeks.  If you give it a little more time it should get better.
