This is a risk of Kybella and it has been found to be temporary in clinical trials. It may take as long as 150 days to resolve. Speak with your injector to see what options you have for symmetry now with Botox injections.

Hi,  Kybella's target is fat and our nerve cells are covered in fat layer called myelin, which helps the nerves transmit signals better. When Kybella is injected, there is about 1 cm area of spread and if the nerve is close by, some of the myelin might be affected by it.  It is not a permanent damage and body has the ability to regenerate myelin but it is a slow process. As effective as Kybella is in melting away submental fat or "double chin", it does come with side effects if not injected correctly and accurately.  The swelling you are experiencing may be normal but it usually resolves within 7 days or even sooner in most patients.  Studies have shown that about 4% of the subjects experienced paresis of the marginal mandibular nerve which may be what is happening in your case.  The good news is, its temporary and should resolve, most of it by 6 weeks but could certainly take longer.  Wishing you a speedy recovery!

Kybella can irritate nerves in the area of injection.  That is why it is not recommended in the jowls.Kybella does not dissolve nerves, only fat, but the nerves get irritated and take some weeks or so to improve and is not permanent.
