Hi,  Kybella's target is fat and our nerve cells are covered in fat layer called myelin, which helps the nerves transmit signals better. When Kybella is injected, there is about 1 cm area of spread and if the nerve is close by, some of the myelin might be affected by it.  It is not a permanent damage and body has the ability to regenerate myelin but it is a slow process. It may take anywhere from 1 month up to 9 months for full recovery.  Please be patient and hope you feel better.  You should also inform your provider of this side effect. Best, Dr.Avaliani

This is a risk of Kybella and it has been found to be temporary in clinical trials. It may take as long as 150 days to resolve. Speak with your injector to see what options you have for symmetry now with Botox injections. 

The nerve may be irritated and will resolve on its own in 6 -12 weeks.  Oral steroids, diuretics, non steroidal antiiflammatories, and RF treatments like venus legacy and exilis can help speed the resolution.  Best, Dr. Emer.
