I have high blood pressure. Would this be an issue with a mommy make over?

As long as your elevated blood pressure is reasonably controlled this is not a contraindication to mommy makeover surgery.

If you can get the high blood pressure under good control and lose weight until you have achieved a safe BMI, you could be considered for surgery if you are in good health.

As the other physicians have suggested you are better served to loose weight before taking on elective surgery.  If you loose weight before your surgery your outcome will be much better and the operation will be much safer.  Set a reasonable goal weight, achieve it and revisit the surgery.  Good luck!

JMoore.    As of now your BMI, or body mass index, is 44.7. I am afraid that is too high to undergo elective surgery. It is highly likely that the extra weight is a cause of your high blood pressure. I recommend talking to your medical doctor about a weight loss program to decrease your BMI to around 32.  You will have a much better aesthetic result and more importantly, the surgery will be safer! I am sure you can do it, and your incentive should be a long healthy life with your beautiful young children and your future Mommy Makeover. Good luck!

Thank you for sharing your question.  When pursuing an elective procedure such as a Mommy Makeover it is important that all of your medical conditions are optimized to limit surgical risks.  Depending on the desired procedures you are looking to obtain I would seek medical clearance from your primary care doctor first and then follow a healthy diet and exercise regimen until you reach your desired goal weight as your current BMI of 44 would place you at risk for surgical/anesthesia complications.  This weight should be one where you are comfortable at, and can maintain, as weight fluctuations will affect your long-term results.  Any weight loss before surgery will not only be in your best interest from a safety point of view, but also in obtaining the best cosmetic results.  Hope this helps.

well controlled high blood pressure is usually not an issue. Your bmi (ratio of height to weight), is however. Typically I want a bmi less than 30 and never operate over 35. Your current bmi is 36.3. I would say try and get your weight below 200 and then visit with a few PS. This will also possibly lower or resolve your hypertension. Good luck!

From your description it is advised that you first lose weight and have your high blood pressure under good control before considering a Mommy Makeover. Those with a BMI above 30 are at higher risk of complications such as seroma, poor wound healing and infection. Losing weight will also give your surgeon the opportunity to maximize your results. In my practice I work with patients who would like to lose weight to help them first accomplish that goal and then we can address their concerns with the Mommy Makeover.

You need to be at your ideal weight before considering surgery. High blood pressure in itself is not a contraindication but you will need a preop assessment to determine whether you are suitable for a mommy makeover procedure.

You would need to be down to a healthy weight and BMI before having a cosmetic procedure to insure a safe outcome. Also, being at a stable weight is key to ensure you don't gain weight back after surgery. Good luck!
