Possibly messed my sutures in my stomach after mommy makeover.

Thank you so much for this question. It is quite hard to "rupture" your sutures, but not impossible. The repair is generally very secure as it is done to resist those very strong "six pack" muscles. It would be a rare event for a scream to rupture your sutures 3 weeks after the procedure, but if you are still having pain now, I would see your doctor to check it and if screaming hurts don't do it yet. You still have a lot of healing to go. 

Although it probably feels like you tore sutures, it would be very unlikely that any type of body function would tear the sutures holding your muscles together.  

It typically takes a lot of pressure to disrupt your muscle repair. However, if you have seen a change in your postop course, best to be seen by your operating surgeon so you can be properly examined and evaluated in person. Good luck!!

Thank you for sharing your question.  It is unlikely that screaming caused any of your muscle repair sutures to fail, especially if you have not seen any significant change in appearance to your stomach.  If you have a suspicion that something is wrong, see your surgeon for an in-person evaluation.

The repair of the muscle layer is very resistant to disruption from coughing, laughing, sneezing, or anything else that increases the pressure inside the abdomen (like screaming).  More likely, the soreness is from pulling of the muscle around the intact sutures.  You should contact your plastic surgeon to discuss your discomfort and concerns as soon as possible.

It is unlikely that screaming did any damage to your sutures.  However since you are experiencing a change in condition it is best to contact your surgeon for advice.  He/She is most familiar with the details of your surgery and how you've been progressing through recovery.

Screaming should not have a significant effect 3 weeks after a mommy makeover, but the easiest is to be seen in person by your surgeon. He or she can easily answer your questions. Best wishes. 

Hello,This is possible but I have not seen a case (fortunately) in  one of my patients. :) See your surgeon to be sure all is well. Pain has been a lesser concern in the past ten years or so since we started putting in pain pumps routinely. Best Regards,John Di Saia MD
