I have short acrylic nails. Do I need to have them removed? Having mommy makeover

When prepping for surgery i would be fine with your acrylic nails but you should check with your surgeon as we all have slightly different pre and post operative instructions.   

Mommy makeovers, like all general surgical procedures, require modern pulse oximeters to measure one's oxygen level in the blood as well as an ongoing picture of your heartbeats.  Short acrylic nails do not create a problem unless the color of your nails is very dark, such as dark blue or black.  This sometimes creates a problem that can be obviated by either putting the oximeter on your little finger or your toes.  



Therefore, the short answer is NO, short acrylic nails do not have to be removed with a Mommy Makeover if done in a certified surgery center or hospital and they will not interfere with your surgery.

My guess is that you will need to remove just one so that the anesthesiologist can monitor your blood oxygenation with an instrument called a pulse oximeter. I think that you might call the surgicenter and ask them their policy.  Best wishes.

During surgery one of the things that is constantly monitored is your oxygenation. Commonly this is done by placing a small probe on your finger. Acrylic nails and even nail polish can interfere with this reading at times. So it is better if you do not have acrylic nails or nail polish at the time of surgery. However you surgeon is the best one to answer this question for you as opinions vary.
