Any benefit or harm to using Polysporin on my incisions? (Photos)

Surgery Dec 13-mini TT with muscle repair...BB accessed to repair upper abs. Breast lift with augment. Lipo to flanks stomach arm pits and inner thighs. Tapes off PS said to massage cream over incisions Any cream Note I do have a seroma In my abdomen Was thinking Polysporin might help healing ?? Any harm?

You should discuss this with your plastic surgeons. I prefer tape or silicone to incisions beginning 2 weeks after surgery.  For the first 2 weeks antibiotic ointment is often used, followed by tape or silicone products to improve your scar.

Thank you for sharing your question and photographs.  I find that antibiotic containing ointments can cause irritation and redness with prolonged use and I recommend patients use Aquaphor ointment instead.  Hope this helps.

It is best that you clear using this medication on your incisions with your surgeon.  At times medicated creams or lotions with fragrance can cause irritation to incisions.  It will not impact your seroma healing if used.

I would run this question by your PS. I wouldn't necessarily advise polysporin and creams are probably best at this stage. I would ask your PS which he/she recommends.

Thank you for the question and photos.  You incisions at this time have "sealed" from primary healing.  Using antibiotic ointment such as polysporin will not be necessary and sometimes it can create some irritation.  Embrace scar therapy will be the best, likely followed by taping as a second option.Good luck with the remainder of your mommy makeover recovery.Dr. Remus Repta

This is something that would need to be addressed by your surgeon. Placing ointment on incisions generally keeps them from healing as fast due to keeping them moist all of the time.

I would ask your plastic surgeon specifically what type of cream he or she recommends to treat your scars.  Polysporin is an ointment which some people are allergic to.  In addition ointments can hold moisture and macerate or soft in the wound.  Your surgeon mentioned creams which are less likely to have this problem.
