How is it feasible for a nurse practitioner to charge $11 per injection of Botox? My highly respected physician/dermatologist in California with a large practice charges me between $300.-$500. Depending on how much he uses. I trust I ca dr explicitly his practice has a large client base who have been going there for years. Is $11 even feasible? Or even legal given that this is being done in a hair salon?
Answer: Is it legal for a nurse practitioner with two years of experience to inject Botox in a hair salon? Thank you for asking this question. As you know many injectors are doing botox in hair salons, at home, hotel lobby, and some even come to your house! The rules and regulations are very strict when it comes to injection of these controlled medications. Board of Registration of Cosmetology wish to warn consumers not to undergo Botox® or any other medical procedure in a Cosmetology Salon. I believe the injection of Botox in a hair salon has the following risks.1. Hair salons(Cosmetology License) do not have the license to perform any injectables. 2. The sterility of the place is not optimal for any injectables such as Botox procedure.3. The hair salon is not prepared for any unexpected complications from Botox injection.4. The Physician/Nurse may not be equipped to handle any emergencies that may arise during the delivery of the botox in a hair salon.5. The Botox injector and the salon can face legal charges, the practice is clearly not safe for consumers.I am aware of MA regulations for Botox injections in a hair salon not in New Hampshire. In summary The Board of Registration in Medicine would not tolerate unsafe medical care from physicians or unlicensed medical practice from non-physicians who are often involved in these actions. As with any medical procedure, the possibility of adverse effects occurring from a botulinum toxin injection is always a possibility. Therefore, the American Academy of Dermatology strongly believes that patient safety comes first and should not be taken lightly under any circumstance. A casual social activity for the purpose of administering botulinum toxin, such as a Botox® Party, is an inappropriate and a potentially dangerous setting for performing medical procedures of any kind, that consumers should consult a licensed physician when considering medical treatments such as Botox® injections and should insist that all treatment be provided in a sterile environment equipped to provide these services safely. Finally, consumers are advised to exercise good judgment and to always verify that a professional is licensed and in good standing before engaging their services. The safety of Botox injection is more important than the cost of Botox.Best WishesDr. Shanthala

Answer: Injector Each state has its own regulations, but most allow Nurse Practioners to inject Botox and many do a wonderful job. Be sure that the injector is trained and that the Botox used is not from another country. If you are uncomfortable with an injector then I recommend you have treatment with someone else.

Answer: NP Botox? Hello and thanks for your questions. Every state has different rules with regard to who is permitted to perform injections, how much training they require, and where those injections can be done. It may be completely legal in NH for an NP with minimal experience to perform Botox treatments in a hair salon. The real questions is if you would actually be willing to have that person perform a treatment on you in that location. They may be a skilled injector, but in my experience, people get what they pay for so to speak. My best advice would be to ask for references from patients that have been treated there and to weigh your options carefully. I hope this helps.Best wishes!Daniel Brown, MD, FACSBoard Certified, American Board of Plastic SurgeryMember, American Society of Aesthetic Plastic SurgeonsMember, American Society of Plastic SurgeonsCastle Connolly Top DocReal Self Top 500

Answer: Is it legal for Botox administration at hair salons by a nurse practitioner with two years of experience? Thank you for sharing your excellent question. Botox can be supplied by a nurse practitioner, with each state providing for different rules and regulations. That said you have the choice to pursue whichever injector makes you most comfortable.
