Help! Scar tissue under areola. Revision needed

Question

hoping someone can help me.. i had gyno surgery about 7 months ago in arizon where im located.. my areolas are big again and it looks like i have breasts again.. went back to my doctor whom i have had the surgery with and was told that it was scar tissue and it is very hard and that i would need lipo to remove it.. massage or cortisone shots would not help.. has this happened to anyone before?..

Thank you for sharing your question and I am sorry to hear that your current results are not what you anticipated.  Without photographs or an in-person examination it is difficult to know what is taking place.  If you have redeveloped gynecomastia tissue the only correction would be through a revision procedure to remove the firm tissue.  If it is in fact scar tissue, massage and cortisone injections may provide a more conservative treatment.  If you are unhappy with the information given to you, seek out a second opinion.

Thank you for the question. Sorry you are having trouble after surgery. It sounds like you have developed scar tissue from the surgery or some retained gland. If it is small amount of scar tissue low dose of steroid like kenolog and massage may be helpful (side affect: atrophy of tissue, spider veins). If the scar is large or it is retained gland you will need to have it excised surgically.Good luck!

If the tissue is hard then yes, it is probably scar tissue but liposuction would not be the right treatment. The tissue will need to be surgically excised. I think you should get a second in person opinion from another board certified plastic surgeon in your area.

It sounds as if you may need a revision. If the area is hard, it is hard to imagine that liposuction is going to do the trick. Fat (which is what is treated by liposuction) is soft. It depends what was done in the first place. Gynecomastia surgery often involves removal of breast tissue which is more firm. This must be dine under direct excision. Also you may have collected fluid post operatively that turned into fibrous scar. It is really difficult to tell without seeing you, knowing what was done and what happened during your recovery. You should visit a board certified plastic surgeon for an evaluation. A second in person opinion is always a good thing.

You describe the tissue under the areola as hard.  It is doubtful that liposuction can help.  Direct excision of the scar tissue may best.   See your surgeon to discuss.
