I slept after 2 hour of my Botox procedure. Should I be worried?

Hello and thank you for your question.  Although I also recommend staying upright for about 3 hours after treatment, it is because I like to be overly cautious.  The Botox settles into the muscles within an hour, so unless there is heavy massage or pressure to the areas that were treated you should have no problem.  Best of luck.

I would expect you to have no problems from sleeping 2 hours after your Botox treatment.  Some physicians will instruct patients to keep upright after the treatment, but I have never found any issues when patients are not upright after the injections.

We do recommend to avoid laying down, rubbing or massaging the are for four hours after the treatment, because this could cause irregular smoothing of wrinkles or eyelid drooping by causing the Botox to migrate out of the injected muscle into surrounding muscles. However, it is rare for the Botox to migrate, so your results should not be compromised. I would follow up two weeks following the procedure with your injector if you have any concerns.

Assuming the Botox was properly injected, you should not have anything to worry about.  If you continue to have concerns 2 weeks after your procedure, I would recommend scheduling a follow - up visit with your provider to go over your results.

Most likely you should not have any issues with botox migrating after your nap. If you have any concerns, talk to your injector. 

You will likely be just fine and have no negative effects from sleeping two hours after your Botox treatment.  Your results will be fully seen after two weeks.  Visit with your injector for any concerns that may arise.

There is absolutely nothing to be concerned about. There is still a lingering old recommendation to restrict many activities for a "magical 4 hrs" after the injection of Botox. There is, however, exactly zero data that would support this medical urban legend. The vast majority of the injectors around the world have recommend for years no restrictions at all after Botox injection. The tissue binding of Botox is very rapid so by the time your injection is done and you check out from the office your tissue and Botox are irreversibly bound together. So, no worries. Good luck!

Thank you for your question niving. I understand your concern. Botox is a purified protein used to address wrinkles associated with facial expression. When injected into the skin Botox will relax the muscles and smoothen out the overlying wrinkles. The most common areas of treatment are in the upper face. These include the horizontal lines seen on the upper forehead when one raises the brows, the vertical lines seen between the brows when one frowns (frown lines), and the crow's feet seen around the eyes when one smiles.It is difficult to make an assessment without knowing the dose used and the exact placement of the product. However, I hope the information provided here is useful.The safety record of Botox is well established. The product has been used for over 20 years for a variety of treatments with minimal side effects. Botox is amongst the safest treatments for treating facial wrinkles.While Botox is one of the safest treatments offered, there are some situations where it is not appropriate. These include anyone who has an allergy to any of the inactive ingredients or who has had an allergic reaction to any botulinum product including Botox, Dysport, Xeomin, or Myobloc. The safety and efficacy of Botox has not been established in women who are pregnant, trying to become pregnant, or breast feeding. Therefore, women in these categories are advised to wait until breast feeding is completed prior to having a Botox treatment. Botox should not be placed in the skin on the site of an infection. Those who are taking an aminoglycoside antibiotic, an anesthetic, D-penicillamine, antimalarials, or immunosuppressants should not be treated, nor should those who have undergone chemotherapy within the previous six months. It is important to avoid blood thinners before and after a treatment. These include both prescription and non-prescription medications such as warfarin (coumadin), aspirin, ibuprofen, alcohol, fish oil, vitamin E, and ginko biloba. Those with conditions that affect muscles and nerves such as amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS or Lou Gehrig's disease), myasthenia gravis, or Lambert-Eaton syndrome should not undergo Botox treatments.
With any injection, there are risks such as pain, bleeding, bruising, redness, swelling, tenderness, and infection. We take special precautions to minimize these risks such as using a painless technique. We also treat bruises with a laser as early as the next day. Bruises usually resolve within two weeks if untreated. After a laser treatment bruises usually resolve in 1-3 days, but may still take two weeks for full resolution. In addition to these risks, with Botox there is also a risk that the product spreads or diffuses to nearby structures. Spread to nearby muscles can lead to side effects such as the temporary appearance of droopy eyelids or a temporary asymmetric smile.

After a Botox treatment, I recommend that my patients avoid heat exposure, alcohol consumption, and strenuous exercise for 24 hours and not lie down flat for four hours. This is because all of these activities may possibly lead to the movement of the product and consequent side effects such as droopy eyelids. Although there have been no definitive studies shown that these actually occur and some physicians do not provide such aftercare instructions, in the absence of data I err on the side of caution and recommend that my patients avoid such activities.
I have had patient who do not completely follow the aftercare instructions and do fine. If I had a patient who lied down two hours after a Botox treatment I would think that there would be no problems. But I would want the patient to return at the two week point to assess the results. By that time it would be evident if the Botox has migrated to and relaxed a nearby muscle.

It’s advised you should not sleep or bend too much forward for up to 4 hours post Botox injection. In your case I think you will be fine. I would not worry too much.
