Why does one side of my nose/nostril stick out more than the other? (Photo)

Question

Im 22 years of age, my nose is quite an issue for me, I do remember vaguely being kicked in the nose when I was in primary school so im not sure if it is because lf that, but I've only noticed a few years ago that one side of nose sticks out more, the other side of my nose is flat compared to it, you can feel the bump when you run your finger over it, it clicks alot aswell when I move my nose from side to side etc, can this be fixed by surgery or is it a normal thing to happen?

Your lower lateral cruras or alar cartilages seem to be signigicatively assymetrical, this can be treated along with other nasal features you might wish to improve.The best option is replacing both alar cartilages by new custom taylored pieces of symmetrical shape and size, since obtaining symmetry with those you have now is merely impossible.Your is a very interesting case for the right surgeon, not an easy case, needs large experience in congenital and secondary noses.

Rhinoplasty to address the size and shape of your nose should help you address your concerns. You have to understand that there is no such thing as the “perfect” nose. As rhinoplasty surgeons, we are able to improve the structure and function of the nose to address specific issues you have with how your nose looks and and how well you can breathe. Attempts to improve the symmetry of your nose should be aimed at achieving an improvement in your asymmetry to the point where it is no longer very noticeable. It does appear from your images that there is a difference in your nasal tissues between the two sides. This could be related to trauma or just  the way your cartilages developed over time.Asymmetries like this can be corrected with nasal surgery. This would most likely involve using sutures or select cuts to make the cartilage on each side more similar. I would recommend a consultation with a facial plastic surgeon who performs rhinoplasty on a regular basis to have a consultation with complete examination of your nose. Together with your surgeon you can explore the possibilities for correction of this through rhinoplasty.
