Earlobe surgery is composed of several techniques that can either repair torn earlobes (split earlobes) or correct overly redundant earlobe tissue from piercings or genetics or stretching. Our HIDEF earlobe repair includes a recontouring of the earlobe contour using multilayered sutures to reapproximate the curvature of the earlobe; while simultaneously restoring contour to the ear. In patients with pixie ears after facelift surgery, an alternate technique is used to reduce the dependance of the earlobe on the facelift flap. Facelift surgery can reshape the earlobe and this requires restoration. Sutures are usually taken out within 10 days and the wound is repierced in 4-6 weeks thereafter. Keloid scars must be addressed in patients with known history for scarring. Best, Dr. KaramanoukianRealself100 Surgeon
Hi and thank you for your question. There are procedures for making attached earlobes look more detached and look like natural dangling earlobes. Some patients are just bormm with attached lobes and some can acquire inadvertently from a facelift. There is a surgical solution either way. Please consult with a board certified facial plastic surgeon to review your options.
This is a procedure that is occasionally performed and is generally done under local anesthesia in an office setting. If you're seriously considering a procedure for the earlobes be sure to choose a surgeon with board certification in Otolaryngology, Plastic Surgery or Facial Plastic and Reconstructive surgery.
Thank you for your question, I often receive a lot ofcuriosity about this procedure. To answer your question there is a simple inoffice procedure to detach the earlobe against the face. Overall, it is a quickprocedure, which requires stitches that will need removal 7 days later fromyour doctor.
The majority of people have ear lobes that are separate from the face -- they dangle a bit. If you have earlobes that are attached to the face, they can be separated and dangling earlobes created. This procedure can be done under local anesthesia. You should speak to a plastic surgeon about anticipated scars, however.Elliot W. Jacobs, MD, FACSNew York City
Some patients have attached earlobe and others have a more dangled one. They can be adjusted to hang. This is more commonly done for post face lift deformities such as the "pixie ear."
The swelling on the ear is still there, I would recommend waiting for the swelling to go down more and sutures to be removed before you really judge the look. Contact the surgeon with any questions or concerns. Good luck.
If you have any concern for infection in the ear, you should contact your surgeon immediately. Ear infections can become very serious very quickly and should be cared for my a board certified surgeon who has a firm understanding of how to treat these infections if they progress. I...
Yes, it's perfectly fine to re-pierce the ears after an earlobe reconstruction. In most cases I recommend re-piercing no sooner than 1 month after sutures are removed.
It is possible to reconstructing the ear lobe following trauma even with the loss of soft tissue. The key for the best result is to see board certified plastic surgeon. See below link for suggestions:
Sometimes, you may need the canal from the piercing closed. Once this is done, we would wait 6 to 8 weeks to repierce the ears. Best, Dr. Karamanoukian Los Angeles
After repair, your ear lobe will change shape during the healing process. It is possible for it to develop a pointy appearance, but you must first ensure that the majority of healing is completed. I generally would not consider a revision until six months after surgery and after extensive scar...
