In general, the excess tissue that you are worried about will be treated well with a back lift. Although an in person exam is the true test, your skin appears to have too much laxity to get an effective result from the liposuction procedure.
You are an excellent candidate for a upper back lift, also known as torsoplasty; since what you have and it’s majority is loose skin the only way to successfully remove it would be through skin removal, if only liposuction were to be done the skin would not fully retract and could possibly end up making the skin further loosen up, so this is an excellent procedure for which you will have amazing results. It also helps emphasize the waist even further!
Hi Surgery402 in Woodbridge, thank you for your question regarding whether you should get a back lift or back lipo. Thank you for your history and your pictures. Let’s analyze your pictures. You have excess middle and lower back skin and fat. I think if you just do back liposuction, you will be left with rolls of back skin. Therefore, my route vote is for a back lift or back reduction. Most plastic surgeons called the back lift a torsoplasty. There are two types of torsoplasties: vertical and horizontal. During a horizontal torsoplasty, an incision is made across your back. The incision is made so that the final back scar can be covered by a reasonable bra. Indeed, some plastic surgeons call a horizontal torsoplasty a bra-plasty, or a bra strap-plasty. During a horizontal torsoplasty, a large butterfly-shaped area of middle back skin and fat is eliminated. The middle and lower back are lifted and reduced. The horizontal torsoplasty would eliminate the rolls of skin in the middle back, lower back, and in your love handles. Alternatively, if you cannot live with the scar that goes across the back, you may consider a vertical torsoplasty. During a vertical torsoplasty, an incision is made from the armpit down your sides. During a vertical torsoplasty, a large, elliptical area of excess skin and fat is removed from each lateral torso (that means it’s removed from the area from your armpit to your hips). This means the vertical torsoplasty pulls your back skin to the side and eliminates your back skin and fat rolls. The benefit of the horizontal torsoplasty is that more back skin and fat can be removed than the vertical torsoplasty. The downside of the horizontal torsoplasty is that the scar is quite visible. The advantage of the vertical torsoplasty is that the scars are hidden when your arms are down by your side. Also, with a vertical torsoplasty, you get more of the waist line or hourglass shape when compared to the horizontal torsoplasty. The disadvantage of the vertical torsoplasty is that it does not remove as much skin and fat as the horizontal torsoplasty. Thank you for your question regarding whether you should get it a back lift or lipo. I hope you see why I would recommend a back lift. Good luck with your back liposuction or back lipo. Sincerely, Dr. Katzen.
Thank you for your question and for those photos! Although my exam is limited, it appears from the photos you have a combination of both excess fat and loose skin. The most effective way to get rid of back rolls would be to perform liposuction of your back along with back lift (skin excision). However, if you are concerned with having a scar across your back, an alternative option includes liposuction along with skin tightening technology such as bodytite or laser (for a few examples). Liposuction alone would not provide optimal results, as you do have significant skin laxity to your bra rolls. Liposuction can provide some skin retraction, however it is very limited. I recommend you proceed with liposuction plus something to address the skin (excision vs skin tightening technology). The most effective plan can be determined once you are examined in person and the amount of skin excess you have is evaluated. Please make sure to consult with a board-certified plastic surgeon to discuss your options and good luck!
Hello, you can see that there is excess skin, which must be removed, but liposuction must also be done so that the back is flatter and also helps to make the cut of the excess skin easier and faster
Your photos suggest skin excess of your upper/mid back. Liposuction does not reliably tighten skin in this location. An upper body/back lift may be the best option for you. An in person exam is necessary to make the final determination.
Thank you for your question regarding back lift versus liposuction and for including photos. I recommend an in person consultation and exam to really tell how much is fat versus skin. In general, liposuction will address the excess fat but not excess skin. To be sure, see two or more experienced, board-certified Plastic Surgeons in your area for a complete evaluation to make sure you are a good candidate and that it is safe for you to have surgery.I hope this helps.
The proper procedure will depend on your goals. If you are wanting a tight, flat back to match your tummy tuck then you will want to consider a back lift in order to remove the excess skin. If you are wanting a slimmer appearance and are okay with a bit of loose skin, then liposuction should be adequate.
It is wonderful what you have achieved after the weight loss. you already have a beautiful body frame. You have developed a significant degree of saggy Skin on your back (mid and lower) and have a bit of fat. So you will be a great candidate for Back lift and lateral torsoplasty which means the incision will end under the breast fold in order to tighten not only back, also lateral chest and lateral abdomen. The incision will be a brassiere line very easy to cover under a bikini. Be encouraged!Dr. Cárdenas
Hello Dear, Thank you for your question. I would like to start by saying that it would be very wise to try other options before getting a back lift. It is rather a though surgery and the wound takes a lot of care & patience to heal depending on your skin's quality and the suturing abilities of the surgeon. If you choose to have full back liposuction, an adamant & disciplined post operation process will help to thighten your skin while freeing you from the back fat. Kindly note that this commentary was made with the pictures you provided only. An online consultation would be much helpful to illuminate you. Also, please don't forget that even if you had a back lift, it just means the healing will take longer and you will need to be much more careful. But that means you will have a permanent solution for sure. Be safe, be happy.
