I am getting a breast fat transfer in 11 days and was just exposed to cigarette smoke a couple of times at an event outside, several people lit up about 15 feet away from me about 4 times and i left the area but am concerned because I could smell it, will this ruin my procedure? Will i fail a nicotine test? Is there somethingi can do to repair any damage done?
Answer: Surgery If you did not smoke, you should be fine and not fail the nicotine test. If you puffed, you smoked and may fail the test.

Answer: Secondhand exposure to cigarette smoke can ruin breast fat transfer? Hello @Magical868123, thank you for your quesiton. Secondhand exposure to cigarette smoke in the days leading up to a breast fat transfer procedure is not ideal, however it does not necessarily mean that you will fail your nicotine test or that the procedure will be ruined. I suggest talking with your doctor regarding any specific recommendations for pre-operative care he or she may have. Best wishes! Alan Gonzalez MD, FACS. Answer: Preoperative protocol Dear Magical868123, every plastic surgeon has his own preoperative protocol which he recommends to his patients. I would suggest you to discuss this with your plastic surgeon. Answer: Second hand smoke and risks Take a deep breath. You are fine. The minimal amount of smoke you were exposed too and the time till your actual procedure is optimal. Good luck. Dr. Taranow

Answer: Second hand smoke Being 15 feet away from active cigarette smokers in an outdoor environment is most likely going to have inconsequential impact on your health, the outcome of a nicotine test and potential complications from your surgery. In the end, there are only two variables. Patients should be concerned about when it comes to Liposuction and fat transfer. The only two variables that matter when it comes to quality, long-term results are patient’s candidacy for the procedure and selection of providers. Getting an accurate assessment with a clear understanding of what the procedure can, and cannot accomplish should be the first goal of any patient considering this procedure. The next step is finding the right provider. Delivering consistent quality, liposuction and fat. Transfer results is more difficult than most people realize. The number of providers who can do this procedure well are in a small minority. Provider selection is by far the most important variable that patients have control over. I suggest patient start the process by having at least five in person, consultations before scheduling, permanent and irreversible body contouring procedures. During each consultation, ask each provider to open up their portfolio and show you their entire collection of before, and after pictures of previous patients who had similar body characteristics to you around. And experience plastic surgeon should have no difficulty showing you the before and after pictures of at least 50 previous patients. For fat transfer results make absolutely sure you know the exact timeframe of when after pictures were taken. Early fat transfer results can look very impressive. I do not in anyway represent final results. Being shown a handful of pre-selected images, representing the best results of our providers career is insufficient to get a clear understanding of what the average results look like in the hands of each provider.During each consultation, ask each provider to open up their portfolio and show you their entire collection of before, and after pictures of previous patients who had similar body characteristics to you around. A substantial number of individuals seeking this procedure fail in properly vetting plastic surgeons for their liposuction results, focusing instead on the results of fat transfer. Breast fat transfer can increase breast size by approximately 1/2 cup. The procedure can consistently increase breast size, but does virtually nothing to change breast shape. While direct cigarette smoking has been clearly linked to worse outcomes and increased surgical complications. I don’t know of any study that has demonstrated the second hand smoke has a negative impact on plastic surgery outcomes. I’m no expert on the impact of nicotine. The detriment of smoking are fairly particular when it comes to plastic surgery outcomes. While cigarette smoking is known to cause significant increase in morbidity with certain procedures it is not significant for either Liposuction or fat transfer other than anecdotal evidence.
