Will testosterone pellet increase my chances of developing a blood clot after surgery?

I am scheduled for surgery in January 2023 for Lipo, tummy tuck, breast implant removal with lift and fat transfer. I had a testosterone pellet inserted November 2, 2022. Will this increase my risk of developing blood clots after surgery?

Thank you for your question.  Each Surgeon will have their own recommendations in regards to hormones and surgery.  I typically recommend no hormones for a few weeks before and after.  I would suggest speaking with your Surgeon and discussing their recommendations.  Best of luck to you.

Yes, it does increase your risk somewhat because it is a hormone. However, you need to mobilize soon after surgery and I sure compression garments will be used in surgery for you.

It should be fine for you to proceed with your surgery as scheduled even with the testosterone pellet.  It is always best to discuss the situation with your surgeon as well as all prescription and over the counter medications you take.  Don't forget to include supplements too.

There is no link that I am aware of correlating low-dose testosterone with blood clots.
I suggest having a few in person consultations at which time you can talk to each plastic surgeon specifically about your medical history. You may also want to talk did the Doctor Who gave you the testosterone pellet about implications of hormone manipulation.

The general consensus from gender affirming surgery is that exogenous hormones don't increase the risk of thrombosis, but I am not sure if anyone has definitively studied this.
