I am about to have a fat transfer to treat lipoatrophy on both thighs which occurred after multiple intramuscular injections with penicillin and gentamicin in my childhood. The surgeon said he would need around 100cc per side to get the concavities filled. I am quite thin and as an athlete i don'tcacrry much fat. I wonder how much fat should be suctioned to get that 200cc total pure fat.
Answer: Pure fat verses total fat Although this is a great question, there is not an exact answer to this question. I find that in athletic thin patients, close to twice as much fat must be obtained to have the amount wanted for transfer. So, in your case, obtaining about 400 cc of total fat will typically yield 200 cc of "pure" fat. These numbers vary though. Sometimes 300 cc total can yield 200 cc. It's up to the surgeon to make the determination on the amount of areas to be addressed to obtain an amount that will result in enough fat to transfer.

Answer: Fat The actual volume removed is dependent upon how much fluid is used to pretreat the area. Your surgeon will aspirate until he/she gets at least 200 cc's of fat.

Answer: Curious Sounds like the surgeon who you selected told you how much they wanted to suction and if they offered you the procedure it sounds like they feel like they can achieve what you are looking for and they are offering. If you dont trust them I would get a second opinion or not go with them for the procedure.

Answer: Fat graft volume Depending of the technique used for fat harvest/liposuction, fat content (supernatant fat) should be 70% and more of the aspirated volume. This should be best discussed with your surgeon, based on specific technique he uses for fat harvest. Good luck.
