In my practice we fix the hernia at the same time as doing the liposuction. Hernias pose a risk of internal issues if it were to be damaged. Best, Dr. Emer.
Absolutely no problem with this. Since most umbilical hernia's can be fixed under local anesthesia this could be done at the same time.
This needs to be carefully evaluated by your surgeon. A large hernia could pose a risk with liposuction. It would be best to have it repaired prior to liposuction.
Thanks for your inquiry, but without a picture, exam, or better understanding of your goals, it is hard to advise on your particular options. However, if the liposuction is planned say on around the mons/ pubic area--I do not see a contraindication. I would not recommend liposuction near or around an umbilical hernia. Good Luck.
In such a case the risk of hernia sack penetration with the liposuction cannula is high. The hernia should be repaired before the liposuction. Best of luck!
The umbilicus is often used as an entry point for the steel tubes used in liposuction as well as to contour the midline. Having s hernia in this location posses a risk for penetration of the hernia contents by the steel tubes. As a result, unless you are carefully examined and cleared it may be exceedingly unsafe to perform liposuction on you.
Dear Ms. I'mtrustingu,Thank you for your information and questions. Unfortunately with out photos (or a physical exam) I can not provide you specific advice. However hopefully you will the following helpful.Hernias by definition means there is a weakness in the abdominal wall and increases the chances that the liposuction cannulaes could accidentally enter the abdominal cavity and damage your internal organs. My advice: have your hernia repaired then if you are a candidate for liposuction proceed.I recommend that you make several consultative appointments with Plastic Surgeons who are experienced and Certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery.
