Can taping cause a supratip break or indentation, or permanently change the intended shape of my nose?

The purpose of taping the nose following rhinoplasty is to decrease the "dead space" and edema that will inevitably occur following rhinoplasty.  The tape also helps the nose maintain its shape.  A slight crease in the supratip area with the taping following surgery is actually appropriate as this area tends to swell more than other areas and does not maintain its shape well without the taping.  The length of time of taping is somewhat controversial but I am certain your rhinoplasty surgeon has a plan.  

You didn't mention how far out from surgery you are, but I suspect it is early.  There is nothing permanent that can be caused by taping.  Taping just helps "encourage" the skin to settle down over the underlying cartilage.  I think of it more like preventing blood or fluid from accumulating under the skin immediately after surgery . It serves minimal function.  Make sure you voice your concerns to your surgeon.  

Hello and thank you for your question. Taping the nose following rhinoplasty helps to minimize swelling and redrape the skin while it heals. It should not cause any permanent or lasting effects on your nose post-surgery other than possible blistering. You should not develop a supratip purely as a result of taping. Make sure to be patient with your results as your nose continues to heal. Final results from a nose job can take several months to develop completely.
