I have keloid on my face due to an operation, and tiny keloid scars on my body. I have bulgy tip and wide nostrils.I want to get my nostrils smaller and don't want falling of the tip when i smile. I asked my doctor he offered open surgery for the tip but I am too afraid if i get huge keloids on my tip. Is it for sure to get keloid for me?
Answer: Nose and keloids The nose is considered a safe area and is extremely unlikely to get a keloid. You can get an alarplasty to narrow the nostrils and a tipplasty to lift the tip. Tip-plasty and Alarplasty You can have the lower half of the nose (tip and nostrils) addressed without breaking the nasal bones. Tip-plasty can address the bulbous tip either through closed or open approach to make it narrow and refined. Alarplasty is a very fine and quick procedure that can narrow the nostrils and reduce the flare to soften the appearance. It has other names as well like ‘Weir Excisions’ or ‘Nostril Reduction’. However, it is important to note that asymmetry of nostrils is common and cannot be corrected with alarplasty. Both of these can be done under local anethesia. Watch the video link below. Answer: Keloids Interestingly, I have never seen a keloid arise from a transcolumellar incision during rhinoplasty. This incision can also be injected with steroids to prevent one from occurring. This being said, I still prefer to perform nearly 99% of rhinoplasty operations by using the closed technique which avoids the external scar. You could consider seeking consultation with a surgeon experienced and comfortable with this approach as well. Best of luck!

Answer: Rhinoplasty and keloids It would be very hard to confirm your "keloid" based on this photo. Closed rhinoplasty, with scars hidden inside of the nostrils, would be safer option if keloid is confirmed. In person consultation with a board certified plastic surgeon with good reputation in rhinoplasty is recommended. Good luck.

Answer: Keloid from rhinoplasty I'm not sure anyone has ever reported a keloid from rhinoplasty surgery. Also, I'm not sure the scar on your chin is actually a keloid. It looks more like a hypertrophic scar. Nevertheless, you may want to seek out as surgeon who performs closed rhinoplasty. This will avoid the possibility of a keloid altogether.

Answer: Rare keloids in nose + Close Rhinoplasty Dear Mrs,After looking at your pictures, I would like to address your question providing as much details as possible for you to make an informed decision on the nose surgery. In my opinion, it would be really rare to get keloids in the nose. Anyhow, if you are afraid of that, I would suggest doing a close rhinoplasty (as opposed to the open one suggested by the other surgeon). I encourage to ask further questions if the explanation above was not sufficient.Kind regards,Dr. Torres
