How can I determine if I had an allergic reaction or have an infection from dermal fillers with lidocaine?

I cannot provide a formal assessment without seeing you as a patient in my clinic. I suggest scheduling a follow-up appointment with your provider as soon as possible to rule out any chance of infection, although it is unlikely. Swelling and discomfort can last for up to 2 weeks after your injections. I recommend waiting 2 weeks to see your results after the swelling subsides. I also recommend scheduling a consultation, and having all injections with, a board-certified cosmetic dermatologist who is an expert in facial rejuvenation techniques. They will evaluate if if the filler you have needs to be dissolved. In my practice, we have over 45 lasers that we use in combination with other treatment modalities to customize treatment plans for each of our patients.

Thank you for sharing your question and I am sorry to hear of your recovery issues.  Unfortunately without an in-person examination or full series of photographs it is difficult to offer advice.  The bump may be due to filler placement technique, continued irritation from the cannula placement, a small bruise, etc.  I would recommend speaking to your injector for the best advice, treatment, and reassurance. 

I encourage you to visit with your injector for an evaluation. In the future you can consider a patch test to determine if you have an allergy. In the meantime your injector can treat you if you have developed an infection at the injection site.
