Massage after lip augmentation with hyaluronic acid - what to expect?

Thank you for your question.  Aggressive rubbing after placement of HA will result in some spread of the material throughout your lips, and may cause some increased swelling, but its unlikely to materially effect your outcome.  Wait approximately 10-14 days to assess your results, you will likely be pleased once your swelling has resolved and your tissues have relaxed.  

I do not believe you cause significant damage by massaging your lips after having them injected with filler.  I would let the swelling subside and look at the results 10 days after injections to judge.  You can have additional filler placed at that time if there is a concern.  I would not worry that you have caused damage to your lips. I hope this helps.

Aggressive massaging of your filler may
alter some of the location of the filler. On the same token it could be the
reason for increased swelling to the affected area.



The bottom line is that waiting until
the swelling goes away, will help determine if there are significant changes to
your original outcome.

Lip augmentation with fillers should not be massaged by the patient immediately following the procedure otherwise the filler will disperse. Leave it alone and wait to see what is the final results in a 2-3 weeks, then re-evaluate

I don't advise massaging after filler is done simply because you can move the filler all around because it isn't well set. Some physicians tell patients they can "lightly" massage if they feel bumps, but from my experience, people don't necessarily have a gauge for what "lightly" means. If your filler doesn't look like you expected then I'd suggest seeing your injector soon. And keep your hands away from injected sites in the future.
