Liposuction after tummy tuck. Will it cause loose skin after?

Good tummy tucks tighten the skin between the bottom of the sternum and the pubic area.  Residual fat in this area can be safely removed without leading to any loose residual skin.  As one goes laterally towards the flanks, most tummy tucks are looser in this area.  Here, liposuction after a tummy tuck can, at times, uncover a latent (not previously observed) dog ear leading to the necessity to excise some extra skin laterally, but in my experience, never in the area above the pubic bone.I routinely liposuction the entire abdomen and reliposuction the love handle area at 90 days after an abdominoplasty and correct any latent dog ears.  It has been my experience that this 90 day secondary liposuction does not leave any loose skin in the mid abdominal area you refer to.  Also, I have performed this two-staged procedure on over 100 patients at this point, and from their post surgery reviews, they are very satisfied with the outcome.

you need a consult with a surgeon with at least 15 years of experience that is honest and to the point to examine your skin and sub q fat and based on many years and 1000s of cases tell you what you can expect if you undergo lipo.  This advice can be given by a trusted expert with an in office consult

Thank you for your inquiry. Congratulations on your surgery. Usually the skin is not loose after tummy tuck with liposuction. The muscles are tighten when preforming the tummy tuck, it is suggested to use your garment as indicated and also post op massages such as ultra sounds / Endermologie as well. Best of wishes! 

Liposuction of the upper abdomen is common after a tummy tuck and patients do just fine. If there is any irregularities which is rare, the skin can be tightened up nicely with radiofrequency BodyFX or Fractora.

The ability of the skin to retract after liposuction depends on many factors and you would need an in-person exam to determine whether this would be the right thing for you. This is not an uncommon procedure.  Depending on how much fat needs to be removed and what the elasticity of the remaining skin is, you may be fine.  If I am planning on staging the procedure, I generally like to perform the liposuction first, debulk the fat and then return later for the tummy tuck procedure.However, there is nothing wrong with performing liposuction after an abdominoplasty.  I would recommend discussing this with your plastic surgeon.

Yes it is common to have some liposuction after a tummy tuck. We cannot suction the abdominal wall at the time of the tummy tuck as it puts the pulled skin at the lower abdominal wall at risk of dying.  I would go back to the person who did your tummy tuck and have liposuction.  He did a good job on your tummy tuck so she will do a good job with the liposuction.

This is difficult to answer without pictures, but you can have a good result with liposuction after your tummy tuck. For best results, I recommend a hi definition procedure like VASER liposuction. I use VASER HI DEF with ThermRF and fat grafting to get the most fat removal, skin tightening, contour and definition. This combination will give you the most toned result.
