Post-lipo foam boards: necessary for optimal results?

I recommend following up with your Doctor about their protocol regarding compression and foam boards. I have my patients wear compression for 3-6 weeks straight then overnight for 3-6 months after their procedure. For liposuction after care, I recommend adding hyperbaric oxygen and lymphatic massage along with your compression to help decrease swelling. To improve your final results, I also recommend adding vanquish for further fat removal, exilis/venus legacy for skin tightening, cellutone/z wave to make the skin smooth, remove scar tissue, and improve the skin’s appearance. Compression boards are helpful on the tummy and are usually worn for 2 weeks at least. We put in a rubberized board which is so much more helpful than foam pads alone.

Immedeately after liposuction apply foam sheets of silicone will help decrease bruising.  These foam sheets are only used for 1-3 days.  The use of cmpression garments for 6-8 weeks helps shape your contour, and diminish swelling.

Thanks for your inquiry,  when and if I use foam I provide it for the patient.  Not every area or patient needs foam.  Foam sometimes help prevent creases or folds in certain situations or make pressure more uniform under girdles, binders, garments.  Please do not purchase anything that your surgeon does not approve.  

 In my experience foam boards are very beneficial in preventing folds and creases of your abdomen which seem to result in a smoother long-term outcome. One important effect is also that in the early postoperative stage  it provides more to comfort and the skin looks a lot more even which contributes to the positive spirit of the patient. I use these frequently for the 1st 24 hours post-lips, and I do see in my experience that the bruising is quite reduced with their use.

I use foam sheets only for 24hours after liposuction as it greatly diminshes the bruising, nothing else. The final results are related to the expertise of your surgeon. Best Wishes

Thank you for your question.  I personally only use them for abdominoplasty cases underneath a compression garment for the first week and do not charge for them.  I wouldn't necessarily consider their use a "gimmick" but it is probably one of the least important areas of consideration and results will depend on more significant factors that are a combination of patient and surgeon influences.  Some form of compression is optimal and you should certainly limit certain positions for extended lengths of time to prevent creases or contour irregularities.  If your plastic surgeon is recommending them, then I would honor his/her suggestion.  Always choose a board certified plastic surgeon.  Best wishes.
