What are my options to reduce rhinoplasty swelling with turbinate hypertrophy? 1.5 years post op

turbinates' are inside nose and they do not affect exterior of nose and has nothing to do with your nasal swelling, yes if you have functional problems that can be helped by medical treatment or by turbinoplasty .Post Rhinoplasty swelling usually subside in 1 to 1and half year .sometimes up to 2 years

Hi there! Thanks for the questions. For nasal swelling, it can depend on a number of factors. Allergies, hot environments, salty diet, and genetics all play roles to varying degrees. If not performed yet, you may want to have a discussion with your surgeon regarding steroid injections to the tip. This can be performed roughly every 3-4 weeks in order to obtain improvement. Taping nightly and compressions will add to the effect. If still no improvement, then a revision may be needed or a referral to Dermatology to evaluate for another condition of the skin. A deviated septum and inflamed turbinates contribute to breathing trouble, but don't often add to swelling externally. Hope this helps!

Mechanical obstruction of nasal airflow may be caused by displacement of the nasal septum from midline, inward collapse of the nasal bones, enlarged turbinate tissue arising from the lateral aspect of the nasal cavity, swollen intranasal tissues, or a combination of all four.
Total healing after rhinoplasty may take up to 2 years. After internal nasal examination, your treating physician apparently noted residual swelling and therefore advised continued conservatism.
In order to temporarily reduce intranasal swelling and improve nasal breathing, the use of intranasal antihistamine / decongestant medication may be of value. In severe instances, intranasal steroid medication may be utilized.
